A 10.5 mL sample of vinegar, containing acetic acid, was titrated using 0.460 M NaOH solution. The titration required 19.13 mL o
laila [671]

Explanation:

Step 1:

A good first step for a problem like this is to write down the chemical formula and balance it.

It appears here that we have 10.5 mL of vinegar, which IS acetic acid, and 19.13 mL of 0.460 M NaOH. That will give us the following balanced chemical equation:

CH3COOH + NaOH ------> NaCH3COO + H2O

All of the constituents come out to a value of 1, conveniently.

Step 2:

Since all of our stoichiometric coefficients are one, we can use a shortcut to answer this equation. I don't know if it has a name, but I just call it the titration formula. It goes something like this:

M1 * V1 = M2 * V2

M stands for Molarity and V stands for volume. 1 and 2 being the before the reaction and after the reaction.

So, our M1 for this is going to be what the question says was used for this titration. That's 0.460M NaOH.

Our V1 is going to be the initial volume of the sample, which was 10.5 mL

Our V2 is going to be 19.13, which is the volume when we're finished.

It's clear that we don't know M2, so let's find it.

Keep in mind that it's easier to convert to liters pretty much always, so I've done that by dividing the mL values each by 1000.

Using some algebra, we can see that we now have:

0.460 M * 0.0105 L = x M * 0.01913 L

Which goes to:

\frac{0.00483mol}{0.01913L} = 0.252 M

So our M2, the molar concentration of acetic acid in this vinegar, is equal to 0.252 M.

How do you convert kilograms to pounds?
Maru [420]

Answer: (1 Kilogram = 2.20462 pounds) . There are 2.2046226218 lb in 1 kilogram. To convert kilograms to pounds, multiply your figure by 2.205 for an approximate result. 1 kilogram is also equal to 2 lb and 3.27396195 oz. Working out a rough estimate in your head for converting to pounds and ounces may be tricky - remember that there are 16 ounces in a pound.

How many grams of iron are needed to combine with 24.9 g of 0 to make Fe203?
Pavlova-9 [17]

Answer:

Explanation:

Here's where all that equation balancing is going to come into use. Since the main object of the question is not the equation, I'm just going to balance it and use it.

4Fe + 3O2 ====> 2Fe2O3

Step One

Find the number of mols of O2 in 24.9 grams of O2

1 mol O2 = 2*16 = 32 grams

x mol O2 = 24.9 grams               Cross multiply

32x = 24.9 * 1                               Divide by 32

x = 24.9/32

x = 0.778 moles of O2

Step Two

Type the findings under the balanced equations parts. Solve for the number of moles of Fe

4Fe + 3O2 ====> 2Fe2O3

x          0.778

Step Three

Set up the proportion

4/x = 3/0.778            Cross multiply

Step Four

Solve the proportion moles of Fe

4*0.778 = 3x

3.112   =    3x                      Divide by 3

3.112/3 = 3x/3

x = 1.037 moles of Fe

Step Five

Find the mass of Fe

1 mol Fe = 56 grams

1.037 mol Fe = x            Cross Multiply

x = 56*1.037

x = 58.1 grams
