\bf \begin{array}{ccccllll}
&distance&rate(mph)&time(hrs)\\\\
&-----&-----&-------\\\\
\textit{first train}&d&80&t\\
\textit{second train}&238-d&90&t
\end{array}\\\\
-----------------------------\\\\
thus
\\\\

\begin{cases}
\boxed{d}=(80)(t)\\\\
238-\boxed{d}=(90)(t)
\end{cases}

see the substitution?  so.. do the substitution on the 2nd equation, and solve for "t"

bear in mind that, when the trains meet, over the same road, they have been traveling the same distance, one is faster than the other, so the distances differ, but the time does  not, is the same for both,

if the first train has been running 45mins and met the second train,
then the second train has also been running for 45mins,
thus "t" is the same for both

Bijou has $72 in her savings account and plans to save $x each month for 8 months. The expression $8x+$72 represents the total a
AfilCa [17]

Answer:

 The total money in account after 8 months is $72 + $8 x

Step-by-step explanation:

Given as :

Total money available in saving account = $72

The money saves each month in account = $x

So, The money saves in account after 8 months = $x × 8 = $8 x

Let The total money in account after 8 months = $A

Or, A = money available in saving account +  money saves in account after 8 months

i.e A = $72 + $8 x

So, The total money in account after 8 months = A =$72 + $8 x

Hence,  The total money in account after 8 months is $72 + $8 x  Answer

One solution to a quadratic function, h, is given.
Margaret [11]

Answer:

B. The other solution to function h is -4-i\,7.

Step-by-step explanation:

From Algebra, we remember that quadratic functions of the form a\cdot x^{2}+b\cdot x + c has solutions of the form:

x = \frac{-b\pm \sqrt{b^{2}-4\cdot a\cdot c}}{2\cdot a}, where both are complex if and only if \sqrt{b^{2}-4\cdot a \cdot c}< 0.

Hence, if one solution of the quadratic function is -4+i\,7, then the other solution is -4-i\,7. The correct answer is B.
