Answer:

A carbon-14 atom has 6 protons, 8 neutrons and 6 electrons. The number 12 or 14 in the name of carbon-12 and carbon-14 refers to their atomic mass.

Explanation:

Those atoms that have the same "atomic number" but differente "atomic mass" (or atomic weight) are called isotopes.

Atomic number indicates the amount of electrons that an atom has, which matchs with the number of protons it has.

Atomic mass indicates the sum of protons and neutrons that an atom has.

Example with carbon-12:

carbon atomic number = 6 (find this information in a periodic table)

electrons= 6

protons= 6

carbon atomic mass = 12 (find this information in a periodic table)

neutrons= atomic mass - number of protons= 12-6 = 6 neutrons

Using the same analysis for carbon-14:

carbon atomic number = 6

electrons= 6

protons= 6

carbon atomic mass = 14

neutrons= atomic mass - number of protons = 14-6 = 8 neutrons

In this way, carbon-14 is an isotope of carbon-12 because carbon-14 has the same atomic number than carbono-12 but different atomic mass.

An isotope of carbon always has 6 protons - that is the part of the atom which shows it is carbon. If it had a different number of protons, it would be a different element altogether

If the solubility of sugar at 25ºC is 211 g/100 g H2O, what mass of sugar can be dissolved in 300 g of H2O?
ladessa [460]

Answer:

633 grams of sugar can be dissolved in 300 g of H₂O

Explanation:

Solubility is the measure of the ability of a certain substance to dissolve in another and form a homogeneous system. Solubility is then the maximum amount of a solute that a solvent can receive and is expressed by concentration units.

The rule of three or is a way of solving problems of proportionality between three known values and an unknown value, establishing a relationship of proportionality between all of them. That is, what is intended with it is to find the fourth term of a proportion knowing the other three. Remember that proportionality is a constant relationship or ratio between different magnitudes.

If the relationship between the magnitudes is direct, that is, when one magnitude increases, so does the other (or when one magnitude decreases, so does the other) , the direct rule of three must be applied. To solve a direct rule of three, the following formula must be followed:

a ⇒ b

c ⇒ x

Then:

x=\frac{c*b}{a}

You can apply the rule of three as follows: if by definition of solubility in 100 grams of H₂O there are 211 grams of sugar, in 300 g of H₂O how much sugar is there?

sugar=\frac{300 grams of H_{2}O *211 grams of sugar}{100 grams of H_{2}O}

sugar= 633 grams

633 grams of sugar can be dissolved in 300 g of H₂O

How many moles of aluminum oxide (Al2O3) can be produced from 12.8 moles of oxygen gas (02)
zhannawk [14.2K]

Answer:

Theoretical Yield

Percent yield

Example stoichiometry problem

How much oxygen can be prepared from 12.25 g KClO3 . (Use molar mass KClO3 = 122.5 g.)

Most stoichiometry problems can be solved using the following steps.

Step 1.

Write and balance the equation for the decomposition of KClO3 with heat (∆). 2KClO3 + ∆ → 2KCl + 3O2

Step 2.

Convert what you have (in this case g KClO3) to moles.

# moles = grams/molar mass = 12.25 g /122.5 = 0.100 mole KClO3.

Step 3.

Using the coefficients in the balanced equation, convert moles of what you have (moles KClO3) to moles of what you want (in this case moles oxygen).

0.100 mol KClO3 x (3 moles O2/2 moles KClO3) = 0.100 x (3/2) = 0.150 mole O2.

Step 4.

Convert moles from step 3 to grams.

moles x molar mass = grams

0.150 mole O2 x (32.0 g O2/mole O2) = 4.80 g O2 produced from 12.25 g KClO3. This is the theoretical yield. If the ACTUAL yield is 4.20 grams, calculate percent yield. Percent yield = (actual yield/theoretical yield) x 100 = (4.20/4.80) x 100 = 87.5% yield

NOTE: In step 1, moles can be obtained other ways; in step 4 moles can be converted to other units.

a. For solutions, M x L = moles (or mL x M = millimoles).

b. For gases, L/22.4 = moles

What has 6 valence electrons and 16 protons and ends withthe letter "r"
zmey [24]

Answer:

Sulphur

Explanation:

Sulphur(S) is the Sixteenth element of the periodic table and it has an electronic configuration of 2,8,6. This means it has six electrons in its outermost shell( valence electrons).

Sulphur has sixteen(16) protons which is equal to the atomic number which is also sixteen. Sulphur ends with the letter ‘r’. All the descriptions of the element are satisfied and it validates Sulphur.

1. A sample of oxygen is collected over water at 22 ° C and 762 torr. What is the partial pressure of the dry oxygen? The vapor
Rom4ik [11]

Answer: The partial pressure of the dry oxygen is 742 torr

Explanation:

Dalton's Law of Partial Pressure states that the total pressure exerted by a mixture of gases is the sum of partial pressure of each individual gas present. Thus P(total)=P_1+P_2 .........

Given; Total pressure = 762 torr

partial pressure of water = 19.8 torr

partial pressure of dry oxygen = ? torr

Total pressure = partial pressure of water + partial pressure of dry oxygen

762 torr = 19.8 torr = partial pressure of dry oxygen

partial pressure of dry oxygen = 742 torr

The partial pressure of the dry oxygen is 742 torr
