How is radiation different from convection and conduction?

Physics

Answer:  It can travel through empty space

Explanation:

Let's begin by explaining that there are <u>three</u> ways in which the thermal transfer occurs:

1. By Conduction, when the transmission is by the <u>direct contact.</u>

2. By Convection,<u> heat transfer in fluids</u> (like water or the air, for example).

3. By Radiation, by the <u>electromagnetic waves</u> (<u>they can travel through any medium and in vacumm</u>) .

Hence, both conduction and convection need matter to transfer thermal energy, but by radiation there is no need of matter for the heat transfer.

So, since outter space is vacuum (sometimes called "empty" or "empty space"), energy cannot be transmitted by convection, nor conduction. Therfore, it must be transmitted by electromagnetic waves that are able to travel with or without a medium (by radiation).

Some birds migrate 20,000 miles. If 1 mile equals 1.6 kilometers, calculate the distance these birds fly in kilometers.
faust18 [17]
Set up a proportion

1 mile/1.6 km = 20,000miles/x

Cross Multiply
x = (20,000) * (1.6)
x = 32,000 kilometers

____ would describe an airplane as "Earthen metal infused with Air and propelled by elemental Fire"
svlad2 [7]

Answer:

Aristotle

Explanation:

Aristotle  would describe an airplane as "Earthen metal infused with Air and propelled by elemental Fire".

Their presence spread in to the Renaissance from the Antiquity and Early medieval Ages, and was not consistently displaced until the Inquisition and philosophies such as classical physics.Aristotle's views on biblical theory were influenced by physical science. Many of the zoological findings of Aristotle found in his physiology, such as on the octopus ' hectocotyl (reproductive) head, remained incredible until the 19th century.

Last week we investigated the black hole at the center of our galaxy, with massMX= 8.5×1036kg. An object whose size is on the or
swat32

Answer:

d=2.38*10^{13}m

Explanation:

We know the mass of the hole, so we define as,

M_x= {8.5*10^{36}}kg

For which centripetal force is equal to gravitational force

\frac{mv^2}{r}=\frac{GMm}{d^2}

Angular velocity is equal to v/r,

w^2r=\frac{6.67*10^{-11}*8.5*10^{36}}{d^2}

As r=1 and w=1, we clear to d,

d^2=5.6695*10^{26}m

d=2.38*10^{13}m

A tall cylinder contains 20 cm of water. Oil is carefully poured into the cylinder, where it floats on top of the water, until t
Zanzabum

Answer:

Pressure, P = 3724 Pa

Explanation:

Given that,

Depth of water, h_w=20\ cm =0.2\ m

Depth of oil, h_o=40-20=20\ cm=0.2\ m

The density of water, d_w=1000\ kg/m^3

The densinty of oil, d_o=900\ kg/m^3

We need to find the gauge pressure at the bottom of the cylinder. So, total pressure is equal to :

P=d_wgh_w+d_ogh_o\\\\P=(d_wh_w+d_oh_o)g\\\\P=(1000\times 0.2+900\times 0.2)\times 9.8\\\\P=3724\ Pa

So, the gauge pressure at the bottom of the cylinder is 3724 Pa.
