How is radiation different from convection and conduction?

Physics

Answer:  It can travel through empty space

Explanation:

Let's begin by explaining that there are <u>three</u> ways in which the thermal transfer occurs:

1. By Conduction, when the transmission is by the <u>direct contact.</u>

2. By Convection,<u> heat transfer in fluids</u> (like water or the air, for example).

3. By Radiation, by the <u>electromagnetic waves</u> (<u>they can travel through any medium and in vacumm</u>) .

Hence, both conduction and convection need matter to transfer thermal energy, but by radiation there is no need of matter for the heat transfer.

So, since outter space is vacuum (sometimes called "empty" or "empty space"), energy cannot be transmitted by convection, nor conduction. Therfore, it must be transmitted by electromagnetic waves that are able to travel with or without a medium (by radiation).

What is the 4th dimension? I have heard that it's time, it's a from of saying characteristic. I don't know I need help on this,
sashaice [31]

If you want to tell a friend about a fish you caught or a tree you cut down,
you're going to tell him WHERE you were ... its position in space, 3 numbers,
'x', 'y', and 'z' ... and also WHEN you were ... its position in time, one more
number.

Dimensions are numbers used to describe the location of a point, and the
difference in location between two points.  With four numbers, you can exactly
describe the location of anything, and its distance from any other thing, in
space and time.

The Hubble Space Telescope has an aperture of 2.4 m and focuses visible light (400-700 nm). The Arecibo radio telescope in Puert
stealth61 [152]

Answer:

y_{hubble} = 77\ \ m

y_{aceribo} = 1.1*10^6 \ \ m

Explanation:

what is the smallest crater that each of these telescopes could resolve on our moon?

For moon ;

s = 3.8 × 10 ⁸ m

y = 1.22 λs/D

where;

λ = 400 nm = 400× 10 ⁻⁹

D = 2.4 m

The smallest crater for the hubble space is calculated as follows:

y_{hubble} = 1.22*400*10^{-9}*3.8*10^8/2.4

y_{hubble} = 77\ \ m

For Aceribo ;

y = 1.22 λs/D

where :

λ = 75 cm = 0.75 m

D = 305 m

y_{acerbo} = 1.22*0.75 *3.8*10^8/305

y_{aceribo} = 1.1*10^6 \ \ m

Question 1 of 10
Novay_Z [31]

Answer:

C. 5.6 × 10^11 N/C

Explanation:

The electric field E at a distance R from a charge Q is given by

E = k\dfrac{Q}{R^2}

where k = 9*10^9Nm/C is the coulomb's constant.

Now, in our case

R = 0.0075m

Q = 0.0035C;

therefore,

E = (9*10^9)\dfrac{0.0035C}{(0.0075m)^2}

\boxed{E = 5.6*10^{11}N/C.}

which is choice C from the options given<em> (at least it resembles it).</em>
