(30 Points) A piston–cylinder arrangement containing Nitrogen (N2), initially at 4 bar and 438 K, undergoes an expansion to a fi
BartSMP [9]

Answer:

A. Final pressure P2

P2/P1 = (T2/T1)^n/n-1

P1 = 4bar

T1 = 438K

T2 = 300K

Polytropic index, n, = 1.3

P2 = 4 (300/438)^1.3/1.3-1

P2 = 4 (300/438)^4.333

P2 = 4 * 0.19400

P2 = 0.776bar.

B. The work done is;

W = mR/ n-1 (T1 -T2)

Where, R = 0.1889kJ/kg.K, m = 1

W = 1 * 0.1889/ 1.3-1 * (438-300)

W = 86.89kJ/kg.

C. The heat transfer, Q

Q = W + ΔU

Q = W + mCv(T2-T1), where Cv of nitrogen is 0.743kj/kgk

Q = 86.89 + 1 * 0.743 (300-438)

Q = 86.89 + (-102.534)

Q = -15.644kJ/K

Q = 15.64kJ/K

Imagine a leaf floating down a creek (south) at a rate of 6m/s. You walk in the creek towards the leaf (north) at a rate of 2m/s
Juli2301 [7.4K]

It depends on what is the reference frame where the velocity of the leaf (6 m/s) is measured.

If it is measured with respect to the creek, then the answer is simply "6 m/s south".

If it is measured with respect to the observer moving toward the leaf, then the velocity of the leaf relative to the ground is actually the sum between the velocity of the leaf relative to the observer (6 m/s south, so 6 m/s) and the velocity of the observer relative to the ground (2 m/s north, so -2 m/s):

v=v_l +v_o =6 m/s +(-2 m/s)=4 m/s

and the direction is south.

A 4 kilogram (kg) toy car accelerates from 3.0 meters per second (m/s) to 8.0 meters per second. What is the change in the cart'
zysi [14]

Answer:

20 kg*m/s

Explanation:

we're looking for the change in the cars momentum . the formula to identify the cars momentum is Δp=m*vf-m*vi . In this case m= mass , vf= velocity final, and vi= velocity initial . The mass is how much the car weighs , which is 4 kg . Velocity final would be 8 m/s since that's how fast it last was . Velocity initial would be 3 m/s since it had first started at that speed . Now we can jus plug it into the formula .

m= 4 kg

vf= 8 m/s

vi= 3 m/s

Δp= (4)*(8) - (4)*(3)

Δp= 32-12

Δp= 20 kg*m/s

hope this helps .
