In clinical applications, the unit ppm (parts per million) is used to express very small concentrations of solute, where 1 ppm i

s equivalent to 1 mg of solute per 1 L of solution. Calculate the concentration in ppm for each of the following solutions.
a) There are 17 ?g calcium in a total volume of 89 mL.
b) There is 0.65 mg caffeine in a total volume of 131 mL.
c) There is 0.35 mg trace particle in a total volume of 91 dL solution.

Answer:

a. 0.191 ppm b. 4.962 ppm c. 0.0385 ppm

Explanation:

a. 17 g of calcium = 0.017 mg. 89 mL = 0.089 L.

So our concentration = 0.017 mg/0.089 L = 0.191 mg/L = 0.191 ppm

b. 0.65 mg of caffeine in 131 mL = 0.131 L.

So our concentration = 0.65 mg/0.131 L = 4.962 mg/L = 4.962 ppm

c. 0.35 mg of trace particle in 91 dL = 9.1 L.

So our concentration = 0.35 mg/9.1 L = 0.0385 mg/L = 0.0385 ppm

A student performed a chemical reaction in which 35 grams of hydrogen and 65 grams of oxygen reacted to form water. What is the
sergejj [24]

Answer:

The mass of the product is 73,06 g

Explanation:

The reaction to form water is:

2H2 + O2 ---> 2H2O

35 g     65 g

Molar mass H2 = 2g/m ---> I have 17,5 moles (35g / 2 g/m)

Molar mass O2 = 32g/m ---> I have 2,03 moles (65g / 32g/m)

2 moles of H2 __reacts with __ 1 mol O2

17,5 moles of H2 __ reacts with ___ (17,5 m . 1 m) / 2 m = 8,75 m

I have just 2,03 m of O2 and I need 8,75 m so O2 is my limiting reagent

1 mol of O2 ___ reacts with 2 moles H2

2,03 moles of O2 __ reacts with  (2,03 m . 2 m) / 1 m = 4,06 m

I have 17,5 moles of H2 and I need 4,06 m. H2 is my excess reagent

<u><em>"All operations are done with the limiting reagent"</em></u>

1 mol O2 are required____ to form 2 H2O

2,03 mol O2 are required __ to form (2,03m . 2m) / 1m = 4,06 m

Molar mass of water: 18 g/m

Mass of water ----> Molar mass . Moles water = 18 g/m . 4,06 m = 73,08g

3. Give an example of how carbon is transferred frem being in a living to a non-living<br> organism.
slavikrds [6]

Answer:

Carbon moves from living things to the atmosphere. Each time you exhale, you are releasing carbon dioxide gas (CO2) into the atmosphere. Animals and plants need to get rid of carbon dioxide gas through a process called respiration. Carbon moves from fossil fuels to the atmosphere when fuels are burned.

Certain compound contains 7.3% carbon, 4.5% hydrogen, 36.4% oxygen, and 31.8% nitrogen. It’s reality molecular mass is 176.0. Fi
erastovalidia [21]

Answer:

The answer to your question is:

Explanation:

Data

carbon        7.3%          =     7.3g

hydrogen    4.5%         =      4.5g

oxygen       36.4%         =     36.4 g

nitrogen     31.8%         =     31.8 g

Now

For carbon

                    12 g --------------------1 mol

                    7.3 g     -------------     x

                       x = 7.3/12 = 0.608 mol

For hydrogen

                 1 g   --------------------  1 mol

                 4.5 g  ------------------    x

                   x = 4.5 mol

For oxygen

             16 g ------------------- 1 mol

             36.4 g ----------------    x

             x = 2.28 mol

For nitrogen

              14 g   ----------------   1 mol

              31.8 g ---------------    x

             x = 2.27 mol

Now divide by the lowest result, the is 0.608 from carbon

carbon              0.608/0.608 = 1

hydrogen           4.5/ 0.608 = 7.4

oxygen              2.28/0.608 = 3.75

nitrogen             2.27/0.608 = 3.73

Empirical formula = CH₇O₄N₄
