we can alsoways find the slope by simply using two points off the table, bearing in mind  that slope goes by different names

rate of change

average rate of change

delta difference

rise over run

however is the same cat disguised in different costumes.

\bf \begin{array}{|cc|ll} \cline{1-2} time&distance\\ \cline{1-2} 15&2\\ 30&4\\ 45&5\\ 60&6\\ \cline{1-2} \end{array} \begin{array}{llll} \\[1em] \leftarrow \\\\ \leftarrow \end{array}\qquad \qquad (\stackrel{x_1}{30}~,~\stackrel{y_1}{4})\qquad (\stackrel{x_2}{60}~,~\stackrel{y_2}{6})

\bf \stackrel{\textit{\large average rate of change}}{\stackrel{slope}{m}\implies \cfrac{\stackrel{rise} {\stackrel{y_2}{6}-\stackrel{y1}{4}}}{\underset{run} {\underset{x_2}{60}-\underset{x_1}{30}}}\implies \cfrac{2}{30}\implies \cfrac{1}{15}}

Michael pays his cell phone service provider $49.95 per month for 500 minutes. Any additional minutes used cost $0.15 each. In J
arsen [322]

y = total cost used.

x = additional minutes

y = $49.95 + $0.15x

$61.20 = $49.95 + $0.15x. Subtract the $49.95 from each side.

$11.25 = $0.15x. Divide each side by $0.15

75 = x.

Michael used 75 additional minutes.

b = 11
a₁ = 1 7/10
b₁ = 2 1/5

k = \frac{a_1}{a}=\frac{b_1}b\\\\\\\frac{a_1}{a}=\dfrac{1 \frac{7}{10}}{8\frac12}=1 \frac{7}{10}:8\frac12=\frac{17}{10}:\frac{17}2=\frac{17}{10}\cdot\frac2{17}=\frac15\cdot\frac11=\frac15\\\\\\\frac{b_1}{b}=\dfrac{2 \frac{1}{5}}{11}=2\frac15:11=\frac{11}{5}\cdot\frac1{11}=\frac15\cdot\frac11=\frac15 \\\\\\\frac{a_1}{a}=\frac{b_1}b=\frac15\ \ \ \implies\ \ \ k=\frac15
