What is the direction of the magnetic force on a singly ionized negative chlorine ion moving in this ocean current?

The ocean current the question talks about is the following:
"The Gulf Stream moves northward off the east coast of the United States at a speed of up to 3.5 m/s. Assume that the current flows at this maximum speed and that the earth's field is 50 μT tipped 60° below horizontal. "

The situation is represented in the picture attached.

In order to find the direction of the magnetic force (Lorentz's force) you need to use the rule of the right hand: since the charge moving is negative, you need to place your thumb in the opposite direction of the velocity, while you need to place the other fingers in the same direction of the magnetic field. The magnetic force's direction will be perpendicular to your hand and the sense will be exiting the palm of your hand (and the sheet).

kirza4 [7]
I think with the increasing of temperatures of earths oceans and atmosphere is causing climate change and global warming. When the ocean heats up a lot of sea animals die and with the hot temps in the atmosphere is causing rare hot tempatures in some places in the world.
It can cause some intense storms but it mostly heats up the world and cause a lot of problems.

I hope i answered your question right.

Formula:
pishuonlain [190]

Answer:

42.5 N

Explanation:

The force acting on an object given it's mass and acceleration can be found by using the formula

force = mass × acceleration

From the question we have

force = 50 × 0.85

We have the final answer as

42.5 N

Hope this helps you

how does the charge of a particle affect the direction in which the particle is deflected in a magnetic field?
zubka84 [21]
Negatively charged particles will go toward the positive end of the magnetic field and positively charged particles will go toward the negative end... for two reasons, because the positive is both repelled by the positive part of the field, and its also attracted by the negative end. oh, and on diagrams, the arrows of magnetic flux usually go from negative to positive.

Hope this helps(:

Ayla hangs a 7.5 kg bowling ball from the ceiling by a rope of negligible mass. The rope will break if the tension in the rope e
masya89 [10]

Answer: >41.5N

Explanation:

Mass of bowling ball = 7.5kg

Breaking point of rope = T > 115N

Where T = Tension on the rope

Since the bowling ball is hung by a rope :

Tension (T) = mg = 7.5 kg × 9.8m/s^2 = 73.5kgm/s^2

T = mg + ma

F = ma

T = mg + F

>115 = 73.5 + F

F = 115 - 73.5

F = 41.5N

Force >41.5N
