Answer:

y = 12.82 m

Explanation:

We can solve this exercise using the energy work theorem

          W = ΔEm

friction force work is

          W = fr . s = fr s cos θ

the friction force opposes the movement, therefore the angle is 180º

           W = - fr s

we write Newton's second law, where we use a reference frame with one axis parallel to the plane and the other perpendicular

           N -Wy = 0

           N = mg cos θ

the friction force remains

            fr = μ N

            fr = μ mg cos θ

work gives

           W = - μ mg s cos θ

initial energy

           Em₀ = ½ m v²

the final energy is zero, because it stops

we substitute

          - μ m g s cos θ = 0 - ½ m v²

          s = ½ v² / (μ g cos θ)

let's calculate

          s = ½ 20² / (0.55 9.8 cos 20)

          s = 39.49 m

this is the distance it travels along the plane, to find the vertical distance let's use trigonometry

            sin 20 = y / s

           y = s sin 20

           y = 37.49 sin 20

           y = 12.82 m

Suppose that you measure a galaxy's redshift, and from the redshift you determine that its recession velocity is 30,000 (3×10^4)
anyanavicka [17]

Answer:

1.4 billion light years away

Explanation:

v = Recessional velocity = 30000 km/s[/tex]

H_0 = Hubble constant = \frac{65}{3.2\times 10^6}\ ly

D = Distance to the galaxy

According to Hubble's law

v=H_0D\\\Rightarrow D=\frac{v}{H_0}\\\Rightarrow D=\frac{3\times 10^{4}}{65}\times 3.2\times 10^6\\\Rightarrow D=1476923076.92307\ ly\\\Rightarrow D=1.4\times 10^9\ ly

The galaxy is 1.4 billion light years away

Three children are riding on the edge of a merry-go-round that is 100 kg, has a 1.60-m radius, and is spinning at 20.0 rpm. The
Kay [80]

Answer:

25.33 rpm

Explanation:

M = 100 kg

m1 = 22 kg

m2 = 28 kg

m3 = 33 kg

r = 1.60 m

f = 20 rpm

Let the new angular speed in rpm is f'.

According to the law of conservation of angular momentum, when no external torque is applied, then the angular momentum of the system remains constant.

Initial angular momentum = final angular momentum

(1/2 x M x r^2 + m1 x r^2 + m2 x r^2 + m3 x r^2) x ω =

                                  (1/2 x M x r^2 + m1 x r^2 + m3 x r^2 ) x ω'

(1/2 M + m1 + m2 + m3) x 2 x π x f = (1/2 M + m1 + m3) x 2 x π x f'

( 1/2 x 100 + 22 + 28 + 33) x 20 = (1/2 x 100 + 22 + 33) x f'

2660 = 105 x f'

f' = 25.33 rpm

Andrei [34K]

Answer:

Althought it us possible to have more then one state, it's also possible to have only one state of matter

How will the magnetic field of a straight wire carrying a constant current interact with the needle of a compass? Does the inter
Yuki888 [10]

Answer:

the needle will direct its North South according to the magnetic field of current carrying wire.

Explanation:

A current carrying wire always has a magnetic field around it, in circular loops. This magnetic field will be either clockwise or anticlockwise depending on the direction of current.

Right hand rule tells the direction. Place the current carrying wire in your right hand with thumb pointing the direction of current. Curl of the fingers tell the direction of current.

When the needle gets in the vicinity of the field, its poles aligns itself with the field. (previous position of the compass needle has no effect on its position in the field). The north pole and south pole will be set in the direction of magnetic field.

The distance between the needle and wire does effect the strength (accuracy) of the needle position. Strong field will create strong deflection of the needle whereas when the distance from wire increases, field weakens, thus the deflection of needle will be weak.
