You are given three radioactive samples (α, β, and γ) and can only dispose of one. The other two you must keep, one in your hand

, the other in your pocket. How would you minimize your exposure risk?

Answer:

Keep alpha in hand, keep beta in pocket, dispose of gamma radioactive sample

Explanation:

Alpha particles:

Alpha particles are the particles which cannot penetrate most of the matter. The outer layer of the skin or a piece of paper may be sufficient to stop the alpha particles.

The Radioactive material that emits the alpha particles can be harmful when they are swallowed, inhaled, or absorbed into blood stream through wounds.

Thus, α radioactive sample can be kept in hand.

Beta particles:

Beta particles are the particles which can be stopped by a few mm of a substance like aluminum layer or by clothing.

Beta particles can penetrate the skin and can cause radiation damage, such as skin burns.

Thus, β radioactive sample can be kept in pocket.

Gamma rays:

Gamma rays are the rays which are penetrating. Many feet of concreted layers or some inches of metal lead are needed to stop them.

Gamma rays are the radiation hazard for the entire human body.

They attack the DNA and can cause lethal defects.

Thus, γ radioactive sample is to be disposed off.

Use the following d/t graph to determine the velocity of the object
marin [14]

Answer:

1/3 m/s

Explanation:

Because the graph goes from 3 to 8 on the Y axis we know that each line is 0.5 and on the X axis each line is 1, Then, the slope , or velocity, is 1/3

see? This graph is kinda set up to throw you.

Is there a 1/3 option for this ??

Using the equation for Impact, can you explain the following:
Anni [7]

Explanation:

Equation for Impact

FΔt = ΔP,

F = force

Δt = Impact of time

ΔP = Change in momentum

Car steering is engineered to fail in order to maximize the time of contact and hence reduce the initial impact and mitigate the damage incurred.

Road guard railing crumple on contact to maximize impact time and hence reduce impact intensity and mitigate damage.

Road safety containers are loaded with liquid or sand as they improve the period of impact.

Describe how radio telescopes function.
FrozenT [24]

A radio telescope is simply a telescope that is designed to receive radio waves from space. In its simplest form it has three components:

1. One or more antennas to collect the incoming radio waves. Most antennas are parabolic dishes that reflect the radio waves to a receiver, in the same way as a curved mirror can focus visible light to a point.

2. A receiver and amplifier to boost the very weak radio signal to a measurable level. These days the amplifiers are extremely sensitive and are normally cooled to very low temperatures to minimise interference due to the noise generated by the movement of the atoms in the metal (called thermal noise).

3. A recorder to keep a record of the signal. Most radio telescopes nowadays record directly to some form of computer memory disk as astronomers use sophisticated software to process and analyse the data.
