A ray of light, traveling through air, is incident on a smooth transparent liquid surface at an angle of 13 degrees with respect

to the normal of the surface. What is the refraction angle of the light in the liquid if the index of refraction of the liquid is 1.54? Return the angle in degrees and rounded to 2 decimal places.

Answer:

The refraction angle of the light in the liquid is 8.40 degrees.

Explanation:

Given:

A ray of light passing through air to liquid.

Air is medium 1 and liquid is medium 2.

Angle of incidence (\theta_1) = 13°

Refractive index, (n_2) = 1.54

We have to find the angle of refraction:

Let the angle of refraction be "\theta_2" .

Formula to be used:

⇒ n_1\times sin(\theta_1) =n_2\times sin(\theta_2)

Note:

Index of refraction of air  (n_1) = 1

Accordingly:

Using Snell's law and plugging the values.

⇒ n_1\times sin(\theta_1) =n_2\times sin(\theta_2)

⇒ 1\times sin(13) =1.54\times sin(\theta_2)

⇒ \frac{1\times sin(13)}{1.54} = sin(\theta_2)

⇒ \frac{1\times 0.2249}{1.54} = sin(\theta_2)     <em>...sin(13) =0.2249</em>

⇒ \theta_2=sin^-^1(\frac{0.2249}{1.54})

⇒ \theta_2=sin^-^1(0.145)

⇒ \theta_2=8.3974 degrees.

⇒ \theta_2 = 8.40 degrees<em> ...Rounded to 2 decimal place.</em>

The refraction angle of the light in the liquid is 8.40 degrees.

The value of m given that the temperature of the mixture is 70°C is : 0.875 Kg

<h3>Determine the value of m </h3>

Applying the principle of energy conservation

Heat lost by the hot body = heat absorbed by the cold water + calorimeter

= m * 4200 * ( 100 - 70  ) = 0.50 * 4200 * ( 70 -20 ) + 105 * ( 70 -20 )

= m * 126000 = 110250

therefore ;

m = 110250 / 126000

  = 0.875 kg

Hence we can conclude that The value of m given that the temperature of the mixture is 70°C is : 0.875 Kg

A student starts at position (4,4) m and undergoes three displacements:
quester [9]

Answer:

The final position is  (2, 7)m

Explanation:

When we work with coordinate pairs, the addition works as:

(a, b) + (c, d) = (a + c, b + d)

So, for example, if we start at (a, b), and we have a displacement d = (1, 1)

we just need to solve:

(a, b) + (1, 1) = (a + 1, b + 1)

Now, in this case, we start at (4, 4)m

first, we have d1 = (2, -3) m

After this displacement, the position is:

(4, 4)m + (2, -3)m = (4 + 2, 4 - 3)m = (6, 1)m

Now we have a displacement d2 = (-5, 0) m

After this, the position is:

(6, 1)m + (-5, 0)m = (6 -5, 1 + 0)m = (1, 1)m

After this, we have the final displacement d3 = (1, 6) m, so the final position will be:

(1, 1)m + (1, 6)m = (1 + 1, 1 + 6)m = (2, 7)m

Below you can see a rough sketch of the path that the student take, where he/she starts at point A.
