Well, first off, let's just temporarily forget about the absolute value.  All we have is 2x - 16 = 10.  First we solve this.

2x-16=10

Combine like terms

2x=26

Isolate the variable through division

x=13.

Now we remember those absolute value brackets.  When we have an absolute value sign, most of the time it is going to mean that we include the answer you got, and the opposite of that number as well.  So in this case, x doesn't just equal 13, but it also equals -13.

x=13,-13

Hope this helped!

4) Allison practices her violin for at least 12 hours per week. She practices for three fourths of an hour each
zaharov [31]

Answer:

12

Step-by-step explanation:

So, she practices 12 hrs per week, and already has practiced 3 hrs this week.

This means she has 9 hrs left to practice.

3/4 of an hour is one session, so to find out the number of sessions she needs, you have to do (9 hours)/(one session)

which is basically 9 / ( 3/4)

\frac{9}{3/4}=\frac{9}{1} / \frac{3}{4}  = \frac{9}{1} * \frac{4}{3} = \frac{36}{3}  = 12

She needs 12 more sessions.

If 99 students had a mean quiz score of 82, how much is the mean score increased by the addition of a single score of 99? Explai
Leviafan [203]
The Mean would increase to 82.17 or a total increase of .17

You have 99 students and the avg is 82, therefore we can multiply 99*82 to get our total points

99*82=8118
We add a single score of 99 to our total points 8118+99= 8217

Then we add the student to the total number of students bringing it to 100 and divide our new total by the our new number of students.
8217/100 = 82.17
