The book The Great Gatsby was written by Francis Scott Key Fitzgerald. Fitzgerald was named after his ancestor Francis Scott Key

, the writer of "The Star-Spangled Banner." Although Fitzgerald struggled in school as kid he managed to enroll at Princeton in 1913. He ended up having academic troubles and lost interest in school so he dropped out of college and instead enlisted himself in the army in 1917 towards the end of WW1. A lot of events that happened in his book also happened in his life but is not quite identical.
