3. Reducing friction in a machine

Physics

Answer:

C

B

C

Explanation:

To increase the efficiency of a machine, it is advisable that one reduces friction within the machine parts as much as possible through common procedures such as greasing and oiling. This is helps to reduce the amount of energy lost due to friction hence contributing to output which finally is useful in calculating efficiency of a machine.

Efficiency can't be 100% since it is found by dividing work output verses input but the output is usually slightly less than the input energy due to energy losses within a machine. The losses that occur are mainly attributed to frictional losses.

Here efdiciency and work output are given but input is missing. Converting efficiency into decimal we have 0.75 and since efficiency=output/input then the input will be given by output/efficiency and by substitution 240/0.75=320 J

Margy is trying to improve her cardio endurance by performing an exercise in which she alternates walking and running 100.0 m ea
madreJ [45]
In order to answer this exercise you need to use the formulas

S = Vo*t + (1/2)*a*t^2

Vf = Vo + at

The data will be given as

Vf = final velocity = ?

Vo = initial velocity = 1.4 m/s

a = acceleration = 0.20 m/s^2

s = displacement = 100m

And now you do the following:

100 = 1.4t + (1/2)*0.2*t^2

t = 25.388s

and

Vf = 1.4 + 0.2(25.388)

Vf = 6.5 m/s

So the answer you are looking for is 6.5 m/s

Can someone with an IQ score of 120 be gifted? Based on psychological thought, explain why or why not and give an example. ILL M
Pani-rosa [81]
Hello!

Yes, someone with an IQ score of 120 can be gifted.

An IQ score of 120 means that the individual is moderately gifted. Although this IQ doesn't qualify for gifted education programs, research shows that people with IQs of about 145-180 don't perform significantly better than people with 120s IQ in terms of success.

As an example, professor Dean Simonton from the University of California found that an optimum leader should have an IQ in the 120-125 range, so having an IQ of 120 would mean that the individual is gifted for leadership.

Have a nice day!

A basic physics question
Anna71 [15]

1)

No,kinetic energy cannot be negative since its given by KE=mv²,mass cannot be negative and the square of speed cannot b negative.

2)

Yes,any force opposing motion or displacement does negative work. They are often referred to as resistive forces (friction,air resistance,drag...)

3)

Nope it does not, it just forces the object to move in a circular path known as a centripetal force. It can accelerate an object by changing it's direction but not it's speed.

4)

No it cannot,If an object is sliding on the table (assuming it is not an incline), then most probably that normal force cancels out the weights effect or assuming there is an incline, it cancels the weight's y component.

5)

w = f.d.cos \alpha = f.d.cos90 = 0

The work done is zero

6)

w = f.d.cos \theta = f.d.cos0 = f.d

The work is just the product of the magnitude of the force exerted and the displacement of the object.

7)

0 < \theta < 90 \\ 1 < cos \theta < 0

Work is decreasing but positive

8)

\theta = 90 \\ cos \theta = cos90 = 0

Work is zero

9)

90 < \theta < 180 \\ 0 < cos \theta < - 1

Work is negative
