Explanation: To calculate the empirical formula of the compound we must first find the number of moles by using the mass of each element.

C= 92.31 g x 1mole C / 12 g C

= 7. 69 moles C

H = 7.69 g H x 1 mole H/ 1 g H

= 7.69 moles H

Next is divide each answer on the lowest number of moles

C = 7.69 / 7.69 = 1

H = 7.69 / 7.69 = 1

So the ratio is 1:1 or CH
