Given:

a) Area = 121 ft²

b) Area = 81 yd²

To find:

The side length of each square

Solution:

a) Area = 121 ft²

Area of the square = s²

⇒ s² = 121

Taking square root on both sides.

\Rightarrow \sqrt{s^2} = \sqrt{ 121}

\Rightarrow \sqrt{s^2} = \sqrt{ 11^2}

Square root and squares get canceled.

⇒ s = 11

The length of each side of the square is 11 ft.

b) Area = 81 yd²

Area of the square = s²

⇒ s² = 81

Taking square root on both sides.

\Rightarrow \sqrt{s^2} = \sqrt{ 81}

\Rightarrow \sqrt{s^2} = \sqrt{ 9^2}

Square root and squares get canceled.

⇒ s = 9

The length of each side of the square is 9 yd.

Answer:

C. 4.5 inches

Step-by-step explanation:

Given the following data;

Force, F = 10 pounds

Extension, e = 3 inches

First of all, we would determine the spring constant (k) using the following formula;

Force = spring constant * extension

10 = spring constant * 3

Spring constant = 10/3

Spring constant = 3.33 pounds per inches.

Next, we would find the extension of the spring when a force of 15 pounds is applied;

F = ke

15 = 3.33 * e

Extension, e = 15/3.33

Extension, e = 4.5 inches.
