Diffusion: when sugar is introduced in water, the particles will spread in an irreversible process (dilution) until the concentration is uniform (or the same in any point of the container). When this uniformity is reached, there is an equilibrium state.

As the process is irreversible, sweet taste will not change with time and equilibrium will be maintained.
