In a second atomic absorption experiment, a student prepared a blank solution and measured itsabsorbance, in absorbance units (A

U), three times. The measured values were 0.0044 AU, 0.0079 AUand 0.0062 AU.
Required:
a. Calculate the mean of the blank.
b. Calculate the precision of the blank.
c. Calculate the accuracy of the measurement if the true value of the blank is 0.0030 AU.

Answer:

  • 0.0062AU
  • 0.00082.
  • 106.7% error

Explanation:

a.) Average or mean value of readings, x_{o} = (0.0044 + 0.0079 + 0.0062) / 3

= \frac{0.0185}{3} = 0.0062 AU

b.) The accuracy of the readings is determined by taking determining the standard deviation (SD) of the readings:

SD = ∑ \sqrt{x- x_{o}}/n

(0.0062 - 0.0044)^{2} = 0.0000032

(0.0062 - 0.0079)^{2} = 0.00000289

(0.0062 - 0.0062)^{2} = 0

SD = \frac{\sqrt{0.0000032 + 0.00000289 + 0} }{3} = 0.00082.

c.) The % accuracy is the distance between the average value and true value

= \frac{0.0062-0.0030}{0.0030} *100 = 106.7% error.

What would be the volume in liters of an 2.45 liter sample of gas at 594 °C
Ber [7]

Answer:

V_2= 1.19L

Explanation:

Hello there!

In this case, since the STP conditions are defined by 1 atm (101.3 kPa) and 273 K, it is possible for us to use the combined gas law for this problem as we are given variable pressure, temperature and volume:

\frac{P_1V_1}{T_1} =\frac{P_2V_2}{T_2}

In such a way, solving for V2 as the final volume, we obtain:

V_2=\frac{P_1V_1T_2}{P_2T_1} =\frac{156kPa*2.45L*273.15K}{101.3kPa*(594+273)K}\\\\V_2= 1.19L

Regards!

Answer:

Here's what I get

Explanation:

1. Requirements for a liquid/liquid extraction solvent

(a) Distribution Coefficient

The solute must be more soluble in the solvent (the extract phase) than in the raffinate phase (the other liquid).

(b) Insolubility

The solvent and the other liquid must be mutually immiscible. This means they will form two layers in the separatory funnel.

(c) Removability

It must be easy to separate the solvent from the solutes. This usually means the solvent must have a much lower boiling point than the solutes.

2. Extract layer

The density of ethyl acetate is 0.920 g/mL.

The density of water is 1.00 g g/mL.

The ethyl acetate layer will be on the top.

3. Separability of mixture

Two miscible liquids must have a boiling point difference of at least 40 °C to be separable by simple distillation.

4. Type of distillation

The boiling point difference is only 30°C, so you must use fractional distillation.

5. Apparatus

Your microscale kit must include an air condenser or a fractionating column.

Perhaps it looked like the fractionating head in the kit in Fig. 1.

The alternate distillation (simple distillation) would use a distillation head like that in Fig. 2.
