Enter your answer in the provided box. Sodium hydroxide is used extensively in acid-base titrations because it is a strong, inex

pensive base. A sodium hydroxide solution was standardized by titrating 28.58 mL of 0.1851 M standard hydrochloric acid. The initial buret reading of the sodium hydroxide was 1.98 mL, and the final reading was 30.89 mL. What was the molarity of the base solution?

Answer:

Molarity of the base solution was 0.1830 M

Explanation:

Total volume of NaOH added for complete standardization = (final reading-initial reading) = (30.89-1.98) mL = 28.91 mL

Neutralization reaction between NaOH and HCl :

                                 NaOH+HCl\rightarrow NaCl+H_{2}O

So, 1 mol of HCl neutralizes 1 mol of NaOH

Moles of HCl added = \frac{28.58\times 0.1851}{1000} moles

If molarity of NaOH was C (M) then moles of NaOH added is \frac{C\times 28.91}{1000}

\frac{28.58\times 0.1851}{1000} = \frac{C\times 28.91}{1000}

or, C = 0.1830

So, molarity of NaOH was 0.1830 M

What is carboxylic acid?
maksim [4K]

Answer:

Carboxylic acid

A carboxylic acid is an organic acid that contains a carboxyl group attached to an R-group. The general formula of a carboxylic acid is R−COOH or R−CO₂H, with R referring to the alkyl, alkenyl, aryl, or other group. Carboxylic acids occur widely. Important examples include the amino acids and fatty acids.

How mamy moles of NaCl will be produced from 83.0g of Na, assuming Cl2 is available in excess
Anestetic [448]

Answer:

3.62moles

Explanation:

First let us generate a balanced equation for the reaction

2Na + Cl2 —> 2NaCl

Molar Mass of Na = 23g/mol

Mass of Na from the balanced equation = 2 x 23 = 46g

Molar Mass of NaCl = 23 + 35.5 = 58.5g/mol

Mass of NaCl from the balanced equation = 2 x 58.5 = 117g

From the question,

46g of Na produced 117g of NaCl.

Therefore, 83g of Na will produce = (83 x 117)/46 = 211.11g of NaCl

Converting this mass (211.11g of NaCl) to mole, we obtain:

n = Mass /Molar Mass

n = 211.11/ 58.5

3.62moles

What is the mass of water necessary to generate 11.2 L of hydrogen gas if calcium metal reacts with water at standard temperatur
12345 [234]

Answer:

The mass of water is 18 g

Explanation:

The reaction of calcium with water can be represented in the equation below:

Ca + 2H₂O --------->Ca(OH)₂ +H₂

1 Mole of gas at STP = 22.4L

From the displacement reaction above, calculate the mass of water that will produce 22.4L of hydrogen gas at STP.

Mass of 2H₂O = 2(2x1 + 16) = 2X18 = 36 g/mol

Using proportional analysis;

36 g of 2H₂O produced 22.4 L of H₂, then

what mass of 2H₂O will produce 11.2L of  H₂ ?

Mathematically,

22.4 L ----------------------------------> 36g

11.2 L -----------------------------------> ?

Cross and multiply, to obtain the expression below

= (11.2 X 36)/22.4

= 18 g

Therefore, the mass of water is 18 g
