Marika solved the equation (6x + 15)2 + 24 = 0. Her work is below. 1. (6x + 15)2 = –24 2. = 3. 6x + 15 = 4. 6x = – 15 5. x = Ana

lyze Marika’s steps. Which statement is true about her work? In step 2, Marika should have simplified to be . There are no real solutions to this equation because the square root of a negative number is not a real number. There should be two real solutions to this equation because = . Marika correctly solved this equation.

Given equation: (6x + 15)^2 + 24 = 0.

First step Marika applied to get rid 24 from left side.

24 is added on left side of the equation.

The reverse operation of addition is subtract.

So, we need to subtract 24 from both sides in first step.

(6x + 15)^2 + 24-24 = 0-24

On simplifying it gives:

(6x+15)^2= -24..

Then she took square root to get rid square from left side .

But we can see that 24 is a negative number.

So, we can't take square root of 24.

Therefore, in second step the did some mistake:

<h3><em>There are no real solutions to this equation because the square root of a negative number is not a real number.</em></h3>

4(x-11)^2=25
netineya [11]
Expand the square: 4(x-11)^ =25
4(x-11)(x-11)=25

Distribute : 4(x-11)(x-11)=25
4(x(x-11)-11(x-11))=25

Distribute: 4(x(x-11)-11(x-11))=25
4(x^-11x-11(x-11))=25

Solution: x=17/2
x=27/2

hope that helps

A rectangular prism with a volume of 5 cubic units is filled with cubes with side lengths of 1/3
pishuonlain [190]

Step-by-step explanation:The volume of each cube = (side)^3 = (1/3)^3 = 1/27 cubic units

The number of cubes that will fill the prism =

Vol of prism 4

__________ = _____ = 4 * 27 = 108 cubes

A college-entrance exam is designed so that scores are normally distributed with a mean of 500 and a standard deviation of 100.
yawa3891 [41]

Answer:

The probability is  0.003

Step-by-step explanation:

We know that the average \mu is:

\mu=500

The standard deviation \sigma is:

\sigma=100

The Z-score is:

Z=\frac{x-\mu}{\sigma}

We seek to find

P(x800)

For P(x>800) The Z-score is:

Z=\frac{x-\mu}{\sigma}

Z=\frac{800-500}{100}

Z=3

The score of Z = 3 means that 800 is 3 standard deviations from the mean. Then by the rule of the 8 parts of the normal curve, the area that satisfies the conficion of 3 deviations from the mean has percentage of 0.15%

So

P(x>800)=0.15\%

For P(x<200) The Z-score is:

Z=\frac{x-\mu}{\sigma}

Z=\frac{200-500}{100}

Z=-3

The score of Z = -3 means that 200 is 3 standard deviations from the mean. Then by the rule of the 8 parts of the normal curve, the area that satisfies the conficion of 3 deviations from the mean has percentage of 0.15%

So

P(x

Therefore

P(x800)=P(x800)

P(x800)=0.0015 + 0.0015

P(x800)=0.003
