Full question:

When energy is changed from one form to another, some of the energy is lost to the surroundings as waste thermal energy. The more steps needed to arrive at the desired energy or the more types of energy that are generated, the more energy is wasted.

Which object would likely have the least amount of wasted energy?

A) an electric drill

B) a solar cell

C) a car engine

D) a hydroelectric dam

Solar cell

Explanation:

In an electric drill, the conversion of electrical energy into mechanical energy takes place. Heat energy is obtained when the desired object gets broken with the drill.

In car engine, thermal energy is obtained from the chemical energy which in turn is converted into mechanical energy which is very essential for moving car.

In hydroelectric dam, energy is obtained from water that is stored in dam. The potential energy of water is transformed into mechanical energy which in turn is converted into kinetic energy which again is transformed into an electrical energy.

In the above methods the transformation of energy takes many steps wherein more amount of energy gets wasted.

In Solar cell, the energy that is obtained from the sun is directly converted into electrical energy. Hence, in solar cell, only less amount of energy will be wasted.

Determine the temperature of 1.42 mol of a gas contained in a 3.00-L container at a pressure of 123 kPa
Rashid [163]

Answer:

The temperature is 30,92K

Explanation:

We use the formula PV=nRT. We convert the unit of pressure in kPa into atm.

101,325kPa----1atm

121kPa-------x=(121,3kPax 1 atm)/101,325kPa=1, 2 atm

PV=nRT---->T= (PV)/(RT)

T=(1,2 atm x 3L)/(1,42 mol x 0,082 l atm/K mol )= 30, 91721058 K

10. 17.5 g of NaOH were dissolved in 350 mL of water. The solution was titrated with HNO3 to a methyl orange endpoint (methyl or
Tomtit [17]

1747.2 ml of HNO3 is required to reach methyl orange endpoint.

Explanation:

Number of moles of NaOH solution having 17.5 gram NaOH in 350ml of water.

Atomic weight of NaOH = 40 g/mol

thus number of moles= 17.5/40

                                      =  0.437 moles

Now the molarity of the solution is calculated as

M=n/C

  = 0.437/O.35 LITRES

  = 1.248 M solution of the base

the molarity of acid is given as 0.25 M of HNO3

From the formula

M1V1=M2V2 we can calculate the volume of HNO3 required to make solution acidic.

1.248*350= 0.25*v2

v2=  1.248*350/0.25

     = 1747.2 ml

Thus 1747.2 ml of HNO3 is required.
