The vapor pressure of water is 23.76 mm Hg at 25 °C. A nonvolatile, nonelectrolyte that dissolves in water is sucrose. Calculate

the vapor pressure of the solution at 25 °C when 12.25 grams of sucrose, C12H22O11 (342.3 g/mol), are dissolved in 176.3 grams of water. water = H2O = 18.02 g/mol.

Answer : The vapor pressure of solution is 23.67 mmHg.

Solution:

As the relative lowering of vapor pressure is directly proportional to the amount of dissolved solute.

The formula for relative lowering of vapor pressure will be,

\frac{p^o-p_s}{p^o}=\frac{w_2M_1}{w_1M_2}

where,

p^o = vapor pressure of pure solvent  (water) = 23.76 mmHg

p_s = vapor pressure of solution= ?

w_2 = mass of solute  (sucrose) = 12.25 g

w_1 = mass of solvent  (water) = 176.3 g

M_1 = molar mass of solvent (water) = 18.02 g/mole

M_2 = molar mass of solute (sucrose) = 342.3 g/mole

Now put all the given values in this formula ,we get the vapor pressure of the solution.

\frac{23.76-p_s}{23.76}=\frac{12.25\times 18.02}{176.3\times 342.3}

p_s=23.67mmHg

Therefore, the vapor pressure of solution is 23.67 mmHg.

<h3>Further explanation </h3>

Equalization of chemical reaction equations can be done using variables. Steps in equalizing the reaction equation:

• 1. gives a coefficient on substances involved in the equation of reaction such as a, b, or c etc.

• 2. make an equation based on the similarity of the number of atoms where the number of atoms = coefficient × index between reactant and product

• 3. Select the coefficient of the substance with the most complex chemical formula equal to 1

Reaction

Al+HCl⇒H₂+AlCl₃

  • Give coefficient

aAl+bHCl⇒cH₂+AlCl₃

  • Make equation

Al, left=a, right=1⇒a=1

Cl, left=b, right=3⇒b=3

H, left=b, right=2c⇒b=2c⇒3=2c⇒c=3/2

the equation becomes :

Al+3HCl⇒3/2H₂+AlCl₃ x2

2Al+6HCl⇒3H₂+2AlCl₃

Sucrose is very soluble in water. at 25◦c, 211.4 grams of sucrose will dissolve in 100 g of water. given that the density of the
stiv31 [10]
Molarity of solution is mathematically expressed as,
M = \frac{x\text{weight of solute(g)}}{\text{Molecular weight X Volume of solution(l)}}

We know that volume = mass/density
Given: mass of solution = 100 g, Density = 1.34 g/ml
∴ volume = 100/1.34 = 88.49 ml = 0.08849 l

Also, we know that molecular weight of sucrose = 342.3 g/mol
 ∴M = \frac{x\text{211.4}}{\text{342.3 X 0.08849}}
       = 6.979 M

Thus, molarity of solution is 6.979 M

What is the balanced net ionic equation including phases for K2SO4 and SrI2
Triss [41]

Answer:

Sr 2+(aq) + SO42-(aq) → SrSO4(s)

Explanation:

<u>Step 1</u>: Write a properly balanced equation with states:

K2SO4(aq) + Srl2(aq) → 2KI(aq) + SrSO4(s)

<u>Step 2</u>: write the full ionic equation with states. Remember to keep molecules intact. Only states (aq) will dissociate,  (s) will not dissociate . This means SrSO4 won't dissociate.

2K+(aq) + SO42-(aq) + Sr 2+(aq) + 2I-(aq) → 2K+(aq) + 2I-(aq) + SrSO4(s)

<u>Step 3</u>: Balanced net ionic equation

Sr 2+(aq) + SO42-(aq) → SrSO4(s)
