Many drugs are sold as their hydrochloric salts (R2NH2 Cl−), formed by reaction of an amine (R2NH) with HCl. a. Draw the major o

rganic product formed from the formation of acebutolol with HCl. Acebutolol is a β blocker used to treat high blood pressure. Omit any inorganic counterions.b. Discuss the solubility of acebutlol and its hydrochloride salt in water.c. Offer a reason as to why the drug is marketed as a hydrochloride salt rather than a neutral amine.

Answer:

Here's what I find.

Explanation:

a. Structure

Acebutolol is a secondary amine (basic). It forms a substituted ammonium salt when treated with hydrochloric acid.

The structure of the salt is shown below, with a red arrow pointing toward the positive charge on the N atom.

b. Solubility

The formula of acebutolol is C₁₈H₂₈N₂O₄.

The amide, acetyl, and ether groups confer little solubility to the molecule.

The alcohol and secondary amine do confer some solubility, because they can donate and accept hydrogen bonds.

However, they can each overcome the hydrophobic properties of only three to five carbons, and acebutolol has 18 of them.

The free amine would be preferentially soluble in lipid material (fats)

The protonated amine is ionic and therefore much more soluble in aqueous media (e.g., blood).

c. Marketing

The drug must be delivered to the tissues of the heart, where it blocks the effects of adrenalin. The best way to do this is through the blood, so acebutolol is marketed as the hydrochloride salt.

How much positive charge is in 0.7 kg of lithium? with each atom having 3 protons and 3 electrons. The elemental charge is 1.602
hichkok12 [17]

Explanation:

As a neutral lithium atom contains 3 protons and its elemental charge is given as 1.602 \times 10^{-19} C. Hence, we will calculate its number of moles as follows.

          Moles = \frac{mass}{\text{molar mass}}

                     = \frac{0.7 \times 1000 g}{7 g/mol}

                     = 100 mol

According to mole concept, there are 6.023 \times 10^{23} atoms present in 1 mole. So, in 100 mol we will calculate the number of atoms as follows.

        No. of atoms = 100 \times 6.023 \times 10^{23}

                               = 6.023 \times 10^{25} atoms

Since, it is given that charge on 1 atom is as follows.

                     3 \times 1.602 \times 10^{-19}C

                    = 4.806 \times 10^{-19}C

Therefore, charge present on 6.023 \times 10^{25} atoms will be calculated as follows.

    6.023 \times 10^{25} atoms \times 4.806 \times 10^{-19} C

            28.95 \times 10^{6}C

Thus, we can conclude that a positive charge of 28.95 \times 10^{6}C is in 0.7 kg of lithium.

Flourine is found to undergo 10% radioactivity decay in 366 minutes determine its halflife
yuradex [85]

Answer:

\boxed{\text{2408 min}}

Explanation:

The integrated rate law for radioactive decay is

\ln\dfrac{N_{0}}{N_{t}} = kt

1. Calculate the decay constant

\begin{array}{rcl}\ln \dfrac{100}{90} & = & k \times 366\\\\1.054 & = & 366k\\\\k & = & \dfrac{1.054 }{366}\\\\k & = & 2.879 \times 10^{-4} \text{ min}^{-1}\\\end{array}\\\\

2. Calculate the half-life

t_{\frac{1}{2}} = \dfrac{\ln2}{k}\\\\t_{\frac{1}{2}} = \dfrac{\ln2}{2.879 \times 10^{-4} \text{ min}^{-1}} = \text{2408 min}\\\\\text{The half-life for decay is } \boxed{\textbf{2408 min}}
