Question: Ned took a test with 25 questions. He lost 4 points for each of the 6 questions he got wrong and earned an additional

10 points for answering a bonus question correctly. How many points did Ned receive or lose overall?
My Thoughts: 6(-4)+10=-14; lost 14 points

What I'm confused on: I need a confirmation for my thoughts first. I need to you to break down the question for me. Lastly, I want to understand why the number of questions he DID get correctly doesn't play a role in the math problem. Thanks!

Your thoughts are correct; Ned loses 14 points overall.

The reason the correctly answered questions do not factor into the answer is because that is not what the question is asking. Correct answers are not even mentioned :)

If each Question is 4 points as he lost 4 point for each question, then
total points =25 ×4=100
lost point=6×4=34
100-34=66 points received

What is the slope of a line that is parallel to y = 5x + 3?
Marina86 [1]

Answer:

slope = 5

Step-by-step explanation:

The equation of a lin in slope- intercept form is

y = mx + c ( m is the slope and c the y- intercept )

y = 5x + 3 ← is in slope- intercept form

with slope m = 5

Parallel lines have equal slopes , then

The slope of a line parallel to y = 5x + 3 is 5

Can anyone figure this out for me please? It would be greatly appreciated.

Check the picture below.

now, to get how much is the area of the tiled section, we simply get the area of the whole pool, 53x26, which includes the tiles, and then subtract the area without the tile, the rectangle in the middle, and what's leftover, is the area of the tiled area.

\bf 53-4\frac{1}{2}-4\frac{1}{2}\implies 53-9\implies \boxed{42}
\\\\\\
26-4\frac{1}{2}-4\frac{1}{2}\implies 26-9\implies \boxed{17}
\\\\\\
\textit{so the area of the rectangle in the middle is}\implies 42\cdot 17\implies 714
\\\\\\
\textit{and the area of the whole pool is}\implies 53\cdot 26\implies 1378

\bf \stackrel{\textit{area of the whole pool}}{1378}~~-~~\stackrel{\textit{area of the middle rectangle}}{714}\implies \stackrel{\textit{area of the tiles}}{664}\\\\
-------------------------------\\\\
\textit{we know that is }\$5\frac{1}{2}\textit{ for a foot of tile, then}\stackrel{\textit{price of the tiles}}{664\cdot 5\frac{1}{2}}\implies 3652

All whole numbers are integers, so since 0 is a whole number, 0 is also an integer.

15 plus the difference of 10 and a number X is 15 (X=?)
Verizon [17]
15+(10-x)=15 would be your equation if that is what you are looking for.
