A two-fluid heat exchanger has inlet and outlet temperatures of 65 and 40 degree C for the hot fluid and 15 and 30 degree C for

the cold fluid. Can you tell whether this exchanger is operating under counterflow or parallel-flow conditions? Determine the effectiveness of the heat exchanger.

Answer:

 Parallel flow

\epsilon =0.5

Explanation:

Given that

For hot fluid

Inlet temperature=65 C

Outlet temperature=40 C

For cold fluid

Inlet temperature=15 C

Outlet temperature=30 C

Here is only temperature is given and did not provide the information about heat capacity of fluids so by only seeing temperature we can not predict the types of heat exchanger. But there is not too much difference in temperature of exits fluids so we can say that this is parallel flow heat exchanger.

Effectiveness of heat exchanger given as

\epsilon =\dfrac{\Delta T}{\Delta T_{max}}

\epsilon =\dfrac{65-40}{65-15}

 \epsilon =0.5

What impact does modulus elasticity have on the structural behavior of a mechanical design?
devlian [24]

Answer with Explanation:

The modulus of elasticity has an profound effect on the mechanical design of any machine part as explained below:

1) Effect on the stiffness of the member: The ability of any member of a machine to resist any force depends on the stiffness of the member. For a member with large modulus of elasticity the stiffness is more and hence in cases when the member has to resist a direct load the member with more modulus of elasticity resists the force better.

2)Effect on the deflection of the member: The deflection caused by a force in a member is inversely proportional to the modulus of elasticity of the member thus in machine parts in which we need to resist the deflections caused by the load we can use materials with greater modulus of elasticity.

3) Effect to resistance of shear and torque: Modulus of rigidity of a material is found to be larger if the modulus of elasticity of the material is more hence for a material with larger modulus of elasticity  the resistance it offer's to shear forces and the torques is more.

While designing a machine element since the above factors are important to consider thus we conclude that modulus of elasticity has a profound impact on machine design.

A work element in a manual assembly task consists of the following MTM-1 elements: (1) R16C, (2) G4A, (3) M10B5, (4) RL1, (5) R1
ella [17]

Answer:

a)

1) R16C ; Tn = 17 TMU

2) G4A ; Tn = 7.3 TMU

3) M10B5 ; Tn = 15.1 TMU

4) RL1 ; Tn = 2 TMU

5) R14B ; Tn = 14.4 TMU

6) G1B ; Tn = 3.5 TMU

7) M8C3 ; Tn = 14.7 TMU

8) P1NSE ; Tn = 10.4 TMU

9) RL1 ; Tn = 2 TMU

b) 3.1 secs

Explanation:

a) Determine the normal times in TMUs for these motion elements

1) R16C ; Tn = 17 TMU

2) G4A ; Tn = 7.3 TMU

3) M10B5 ; Tn = 15.1 TMU

4) RL1 ; Tn = 2 TMU

5) R14B ; Tn = 14.4 TMU

6) G1B ; Tn = 3.5 TMU

7) M8C3 ; Tn = 14.7 TMU

8) P1NSE ; Tn = 10.4 TMU

9) RL1 ; Tn = 2 TMU

b ) Determine the total time for this work element in seconds

first we have to determine the total TMU = ∑ TMU = 86.4 TMU

note ; 1 TMU = 0.036 seconds

hence the total time for the work in seconds = 86.4 * 0.036 = 3.1 seconds
