The peripheral nervous system consists of the somatic nervous system and autonomic nervous system. The somatic part of the autonomic nervous system regulates the stress condition of the body.
The nervous system and hormone system together work during the stress condition. The epinephrine hormone is released by the adrenal medula. This hormone increases the blood flow, blood pressure, dilation of the pupil and increases the breathing pattern to prepare the body for the fight and flight mechanism during stress condition.
