To determine whether a graph of a relation is also a function, Shayla declares that the y-axis is a vertical line and counts the

number of times that the graph intersects the y-axis. If the graph has exactly one y-intercept, Shayla concludes that the graph shows a function. In all other cases, she declares that it is not a function.
Is Shayla applying the vertical line test correctly?

A) No, because the y-axis is a horizontal line.

B) No, because using the y-axis tests only whether x = 0 is mapped to multiple values.

C) Yes, because multiple y-intercepts represent multiple x-values being mapped to y = 0.

D) Yes, because the y-axis represents all vertical lines of the x-values.

Answer:

Option B is the right answer.

Step-by-step explanation:

To check whether a graph of a relation is a function or not we can use vertical line test.

The vertical line test for a function says that at any point on its domain, the vertical line through that point must intersect the curve only once.  Even is there is one exception to this rule, the graph cannot represent a function.

Keeping this in mind, we can say what Shayla is doing is a wrong method as she test for vertical test only at a particular value of x=0 and not throughout the domain.

Hence option B is right

B) No, because using the y-axis tests only whether x = 0 is mapped to multiple values.

I believe it’s b because this is not an accurate way of used the vertical line test. It only applies to the y intercepts, yet in another area an x coordinate could be with more than one y coordinate

In Cecilia’s CD collection, 1/5 of her Jazz CDs represents 1/10 of all her CDs. What is the ratio of her Jazz CDs to her non-Jaz
KatRina [158]

Answer: The required ratio is 1:1.

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the total number of CDs be 100

\frac{1}{10} of CDs is given by

\frac{1}{10}\times 100\\\\=10

According to question,

\frac{1}{5} of her Jazz CDs represents \frac{1}{10} of all her CDs.

Let the number of Jazz CDs be  x

So, it becomes

\frac{1}{5}\times x=10\\\\x=10\times 5\\\\x=50

So, Number of Jazz's CDs is 50

Number of Jazz non CDs  is given by

100-50=50

Ratio of her CDs to her non- CDs is given by

50:50\\\\1:1

Hence, the required ratio is 1:1.

Exponential Growth and Decay The expressions below represent either exponential growth or exponential decay. Check all the expre
Tomtit [17]

Answer:

First one: 5x3(0.75)2t

and fourth one: 0.05x500(0.005)t

Step-by-step explanation:

In order to have an exponencial decay, the rate of the exponencial function needs to be lesser than 1.

The rate is the value between parenthesis, so in the first equation, the rate is 0.75, so this is an exponencial decay.

The second equation has rate = 2.4, so this is not an exponencial decay.

The third equation has rate = 1.04, so this is not an exponencial decay.

The fourth equation has rate = 0.005, so this is an exponencial decay.
