To determine whether a graph of a relation is also a function, Shayla declares that the y-axis is a vertical line and counts the

number of times that the graph intersects the y-axis. If the graph has exactly one y-intercept, Shayla concludes that the graph shows a function. In all other cases, she declares that it is not a function.
Is Shayla applying the vertical line test correctly?

A) No, because the y-axis is a horizontal line.

B) No, because using the y-axis tests only whether x = 0 is mapped to multiple values.

C) Yes, because multiple y-intercepts represent multiple x-values being mapped to y = 0.

D) Yes, because the y-axis represents all vertical lines of the x-values.

Answer:

Option B is the right answer.

Step-by-step explanation:

To check whether a graph of a relation is a function or not we can use vertical line test.

The vertical line test for a function says that at any point on its domain, the vertical line through that point must intersect the curve only once.  Even is there is one exception to this rule, the graph cannot represent a function.

Keeping this in mind, we can say what Shayla is doing is a wrong method as she test for vertical test only at a particular value of x=0 and not throughout the domain.

Hence option B is right

B) No, because using the y-axis tests only whether x = 0 is mapped to multiple values.

I believe it’s b because this is not an accurate way of used the vertical line test. It only applies to the y intercepts, yet in another area an x coordinate could be with more than one y coordinate

Explain how to subtract 247 from 538
Licemer1 [7]
For this case we have the following operation:
 538 - 247
To subtract both numbers we must follow the following steps:
 1) Subtraction is done from left to right:
 2) We subtract the first digits:
 8 - 7 = 1
 3) We subtract the second digits:
 3 - 4
Since 4 is greater than 3 then we add a digit to 3 and accumulate it for the next subtraction:
 13 - 4 = 9
 4) We subtract the digit accumulated in the previous subtraction to the following number:
 5 - 2 - 1 = 2
 Finally the result is:
 538 - 247 = 291

a rectangle’s length is 5 inches more than twice its width. its area is 50 square inches. which equation can be used to find its
Karo-lina-s [1.5K]

The equation used is 50 = (2w + 5) × w which can be used to find its width, w.

According to the question we are Given,

Length of rectangle = 5 inches more than its width

Area of rectangle = 50sq. inches

Let width of rectangle = w

So, According to the question,

length = 2w + 5

Area of rectangle = Length × Breadth

50 = (2w + 5) × w

So, our required equation is 50 = (2w + 5) × w

<h3>How can we describe the area of rectangle as?</h3>

The quantity of space occupied by a flat surface with a specific form is referred to as the area. It is calculated as a "number of" square units (square centimeters, square inches, square feet, etc.) The quantity of unit squares that may fit within a rectangle called its area. The flat surfaces of laptop monitors, blackboards, painting canvases, etc. are a few instances of rectangular forms.
