Let x be the number of girls at the beach. The ratio of boys to girls at the beach cleanup was 7 : 8. If there were 42 boys and x girls, you can write a proportion:

\dfrac{42}{x}=\dfrac{7}{8}.

Use the main property of proportion:

42\cdot 8=7\cdot x,\\ \\x=\dfrac{42\cdot 8}{7},\\ \\x=6\cdot 8=48.

Answer: 48 girls

The raised vegetable garden in Susan's yard is in the shape of a rectangular prism with a volume of 48 cubic feet and a height o
Anna11 [10]
The correct question is
The raised vegetable garden in Susan's yard is in the shape of a rectangular prism with a volume of 48 cubic feet and a height of 3/4 foot. <span>The base of the rectangular prism is not a square and the width is greater than 2 feet. What is the length and width of the rectangular prism?

let
x-------> the length of the base of the rectangular prism
</span>y-------> the width of the base of the rectangular prism
<span>
we know that
volume of the prism=area of the base*height
volume=48 ft</span>³
<span>height of the prism=3/4 ft

area of the base=volume/height--------> 48/(3/4)---> 48*4/3----> 64 ft</span>²
<span>
area of the base=64 ft</span>²
<span>area of the base=x*y
64=x*y--------> equation 1

y=x+2--------> equation 2

substitute equation 2 in equation 1
64=x*[x+2]-----> 64=x</span>²+2x------> x²+2x-64=0
<span>
using a graph tool----> to resolve the second order equation
see the attached figure

the solution is
x=7.062 ft
y=x+2-----> y=7.062+2-----> y=9.062 ft

the answer is
</span>the length of the base of the rectangular prism is 7.062 ft
the width of the base of the rectangular prism is 9.062 ft<span>

The 5th term of linear sequence is 17
dedylja [7]

Answer:

397

Step-by-step explanation:

lets say there's an eqn which is y = mx + c, x is the term no. (5, 6 in the egs provided), y is the value corresponding to x (17, 21)

to find the 100th term sequence we need to find m and c. m is how much y changes when x increases by 1

in this case we can find m easily (m = 21-17 = 4)

now we have c left so just sub one of the egs given to what we have alrd found

17 = 4(5) + c

17 = 20 + c

c = - 3

so the eqn is y = 4x - 3, and we can solve for when x = 100

y = 4(100) - 3

y = 397

hope this isn't too confusing :^)
