Starting from rest, your friend dives from a high cliff into a deep lake below, yelling in excitement at the thrill of free-fall

on her way down. You watch her, as you stand on the lake shore, and at a certain instant your keen hearing recognizes that the usual frequency of her yell, which is 919 Hz, is shifted by 55.9 Hz. How long has your friend been in the air when she emits the yell whose frequency shift you hear? Take 342 m/s for the speed of sound in air and 9.80 m/s2 for the acceleration due to gravity.

Answer:

2 seconds

Explanation:

f = Frequency of yell = 919 Hz

\Delta f = Shifted frequency = 55.9 Hz

v = Speed of sound in air = 342 m/s

v_r = Velocity of friend

a = Acceleration due to gravity = 9.81 m/s²

From the Doppler shift formula we have

\dfrac{f+\Delta f}{f}=\dfrac{v}{v-v_r}\\\Rightarrow v_r=v-\dfrac{vf}{f+\Delta f}\\\Rightarrow v_r=342-\dfrac{342\times 919}{919+55.9}\\\Rightarrow v_r=19.61\ m/s

The velocity of the my friend is 19.61 m/s

v=u+at\\\Rightarrow t=\dfrac{v-u}{a}\\\Rightarrow t=\dfrac{19.61-0}{9.8}\\\Rightarrow t=2\ s

The time my friend is in the air is 2 seconds

How does the mass affect the speed as it rolls down a slope?
VikaD [51]
As we use the Kinetic energy and the equation is 1/2mv^2, changing its mass will change its speed and its energy. So more mass, more speed more energy. also the gravitational potential energy; mass x gravity x height; more mass and more height more speed as it go down to the slope! Hope it helps!

A very light ping-pong ball moving east at a speed of 4 m/s collides with a very heavy stationary bowling ball. The Ping-Pong ba
KengaRu [80]

Answer:

They experience the same magnitude impulse

Explanation:

We have a ping-pong ball colliding with a stationary bowling ball. According to the law of conservation of momentum, we have that the total momentum before and after the collision must be conserved:

where is the initial momentum of the ping-poll ball

is the initial momentum of the bowling ball (which is zero, since the ball is stationary)

is the final momentum of the ping-poll ball

is the final momentum of the bowling ball

We can re-arrange the equation as follows or

which means (1) so the magnitude of the change in momentum of the ping-pong ball is equal to the magnitude of the change in momentum of the bowling ball.

However, we also know that the magnitude of the impulse on an object is equal to the change of momentum of the object:

(2) therefore, (1)+(2) tells us that the ping-pong ball and the bowling ball experiences the same magnitude impulse:

What are the various types of technologies used for exploring space and understanding space
fgiga [73]

The answer is flight technology, satelite technology, and  exploration technology.

The flight technology include advances in jet propulsion and navigation. Satelite have become more and more powerful and hecne communication with distant objects is increasing in efficiency. The emergence of AI robots in space exploration are reducing risks to humans in these deep ventures.
