Fresnel and Fraunhofer diffraction. Fresnel diffraction is produced when light from a point source meets an obstacle, the waves are spherical and the pattern observed is a fringed image of the object. Fraunhofer diffraction occurs with plane wave-fronts with the object effectively at infinity. The pattern is in a particular direction and is a fringed image of the source.

A hula hoop is rolling along the ground with a translational speed of 26 ft/s. It rolls up a hill that is 16 ft high. Determine
nikklg [1K]

Answer:12.8 ft/s

Explanation:

Given

Speed of hoop v=26\ ft/s

height of top h=16\ ft

Initial energy at bottom is

E_b=\frac{1}{2}mv^2+\frac{1}{2}I\omega ^2

Where m=mass of hoop

I=moment of inertia of hoop

\omega=angular velocity

for pure rolling v=\omega R

I=mR^2

E_b=\frac{1}{2}mv^2+\frac{1}{2}mR^2\times (\frac{v}{R})^2

E_b=mv^2=m(26)^2=676m

Energy required to reach at top

E_T=mgh=m\times 32.2\times 16

E_T=512.2m

Thus 512.2 m is converted energy is spent to raise the potential energy of hoop and remaining is in the form of kinetic and rotational energy

\Delta E=676m-512.2m=163.8m

Therefore

163.8 m=mv^2

v=\sqrt{163.8}

v=12.798\approx 12.8\ ft/s

A ball is thrown with a speed of 20 m/s at an angle of 40o above the horizontal from the top of a 22-m tall building.
MrRissso [65]

Answer:

(a). The distance is  49.79 m.

(b). The speed of the ball is 24.39 m/s.

Explanation:

Given that,

Speed = 20 m/s

Angle = 40°

Height = 22 m

Time = 3.25 sec

(a). We need to calculate the distance

Using formula of distance

d=u\cos\theta\times t

Put the value into the formula

d=20\cos40\times3.25

d=49.79\ m

(b). We need to calculate the horizontal velocity

Using formula of velocity

v_{x}=u\cos\theta

Put the value into the formula

v_{x}=20\times\cos40

v_{x}=15.3\ m/s

We need to calculate the vertical velocity

Using equation of motion

v_{y}=u\sin\theta-gt

Put the value into the formula

v_{y}=20\sin40-9.8\times3.25

v_{y}=-19\ m/s

Negative sign shows the opposite direction.

We need to calculate the speed of ball

Using formula of speed

v=\sqrt{v_{x}^2+v_{y}^2}

v=\sqrt{(15.3)^2+(19)^2}

v=24.39\ m/s

Hence, (a). The distance is  49.79 m.

(b). The speed of the ball is 24.39 m/s.
