Why do some quasars have red shifts greater than 1?

Physics

Answer:

D) Einstein proved it is impossible to have a redshift greater than 1; these are all due to gravitational lensing tricking us

Explanation:

By Einstein's theory of relativity the maximum value of the red shift is 1. This correspond to a case in which the observed frequency equals the emitted frequency:

z=\frac{f_e-f_o}{f_o}

in other cases the red shift is lower than one.

Hence, the gravitational lens change the measurements of the observed frequency and because of that we calculate a greater red shift.

Hence, the answer is:

D) Einstein proved it is impossible to have a redshift greater than 1; these are all due to gravitational lensing tricking us

hope this helps!!

If the police are chasing a runaway car why is knowing the velocity of the car important
atroni [7]

If you only know its speed, that's not enough information to catch it. You could even chase it at DOUBLE that speed, and you'd never catch it if you were chasing in the wrong direction.

You also have to know the DIRECTION the runaway car is going, so that you can chase in the same direction.

Now that you know its speed AND direction, you know its velocity. You need that information to have any chance of catching it.

An egg of mass 0.060 kg is dropped from the top of a building. Just before it reaches the ground, it has a total kinetic energy
3241004551 [841]

The velocity is 14 m/s

The parameters given on the question are

mass= 0.060 kg

kinetic energy= 5.9 joules

K.E= 1/2mv²

5.9= 1/2 × 0.060 × v²

5.9= 0.5 × 0.060v²

5.9= 003v²

v²= 5.9/0.03

v²= 196.66

v= √196.66

v= 14 m/s

Hence the velocity of the egg before it strikes the ground is 14 m/s

Find the wavelength of radio waves of frequency 200kHz
Gala2k [10]
\lambda = \frac{c}{f}
λ - wavelength, c - the speed of light, f - frequency

f=200 \ kHz= 200 000 \ Hz \\ \\
\lambda=\frac{300 000 \ [\frac{km}{s}]}{200 000 \ [Hz]}=\frac{3}{2}=1.5 \ [km]

The wavelength of these waves is 1.5 km.
