A 59.7 g piece of metal that had been submerged in boiling water was quickly transferred into 60.0 mL of water initially at 22.0

°C. The final temperature is 28.5°C. Use these data to determine the specific heat of the metal.

Answer:

s = 382.45 J/kg C

Explanation:

Here by energy equivalence we can say that energy given by the metal piece is same as the energy absorbed by the water

so here we have

m_1s_2\Delta T_1 = m_2s_2 \Delta T_2

here we know that

m_1 = 60 mL = 0.060 kg

s_1 = 4186 J/kg C

\Delta T_1 = 28.5 - 22

m_2 = 59.7 g = 0.0597 kg

\Delta T_2 = 100 - 28.5

0.060(4186)(28.5 - 22) = (0.0597)(s)(100 - 28.5)

1632.54 = 4.27 s

s = 382.45 J/kg C

Describe each of Newton’s Laws of Motion in ice skating. What can you design/develop to improve ice skating?
denis23 [38]

Newton's three laws of motion can be used to describe the motion of the ice skating.

<h3>Newton's first law of motion</h3>

Newton's first law of motion states that an object at rest or uniform motion in a straight line will continue in that state unless it is acted upon by an external force.

  • Based on this law, once the ice skating starts, it will continue endlessly unless external force stops it.

<h3>Newton's second law of motion</h3>

Newton's second law of motion states that the force applied to an object is directly proportional to the product of mass and acceleration of an object.

  • Based on this law, the force applied to the ice skating is equal to the product of mass and acceleration of the ice skating.

<h3>Newton's third law of motion</h3>

This law states that action and reaction are equal and opposite.

  • Based on this law, the force applied to the ice skating is equal in magnitude to the reaction of ice.

A two slit pattern is viewed on a screen 1.00m from the slits if the two third-order minima are 22.0 cm apart what is the width
Bingel [31]

Answer:

4.4 cm

Explanation:

Given:

Distance of the screen from the slit, D = 1 m

Distance between two third order interference minimas, x = 22 cm

Let's say, minima occurs at:

x_n = (n + \frac{1}{2}) \frac{wL}{d}

We have:

2x_2 = 2(2 + \frac{1}{2}) * \frac{w*22}{d}

Calculating further for the width of the central bright fringe, we have:

\frac{w}{d} = \frac{22}{5}

= 4.4 cm

Note: w in representswavelength
