It was estimated, according to the United States Energy Information Administration, that the United States still consumes almost 91% of non-renewable resources as its energy source. In addition, 32 % of it are natural gas, 28 % for petroleum and crude oil, and 21 % for coal power.

What is energy?

In physics, energy is the quantifiable property that is transmitted to a body or a physical system and is visible in the form of heat and light. The law of conservation of energy states that energy can be converted in form but cannot be created or destroyed.

Case 1:

Vo = 0 m/s

V1 = 15 m/s

Case 2:

Vo = 15 m/s

V1 = 30 m/s

Change in KE = 1/2 × m × (V1^2 - Vo^2)

KE1 = 1/2 × 1000 × (15^2 - 0)

= 112.5 kJ

KE2 = 1/2 × 1000 × (30^2 - 15^2)

= 1/2 × 1000 × 675

= 337.5kJ

Case 1 has an increase of 112.5 kJ energy while Case 2 has an increase of 337.5kJ.

1. Roger tosses a ball straight upward at a velocity of +32m/s, calculate the maximum height of the ball and the time to get to
denis-greek [22]

Given data:

* The initial velocity of the ball is 32 m/s.

* The acceleration due to gravity of the ball is,

g=9.8ms^{-2}

* The final velocity of the ball is 0 m/s.

Solution:

(a). By the kinematics equation, the maximum height of the ball is,

v^2-u^2=-2gh

where v is the final velocity, u is the initial velocity, h is the maixmum height, and g is the acceleration due to gravity,

Substituting the known values,

\begin{gathered} 0-(32)^2=-2\times9.8\times h \\ 1024=19.6h \\ h=\frac{1024}{19.6} \\ h=52.24\text{ m} \end{gathered}

Thus, the maximum height of the ball is 52.24 m.

(b). By the kinematic equation, the time taken by the ball to reach the maximum height is,

\begin{gathered} v-u=-gt \\ 0-32=-9.8\times t \\ 32=9.8t \\ t=\frac{32}{9.8} \\ t=3.26\text{ s} \end{gathered}

Thus, the time taken by the ball to reach the maximum height is 3.26 seconds.

What happens to the light as it changes media from air to glass?
Dmitry [639]
Light is refracted when it crosses the interface from air into glass in which it moves more slowly. Since the light speed changes at the interface, the wavelength of the light must change, also. The wavelength decreases as the light enters the medium and the light wave changes direction.
