Explain in terns of atomic structure why barium has a lower first ionization energy than magnesium.

Chemistry

Answer:

Barium has a greater radius than magnesium

Explanation:

Barium and magnesium are two elements which belong to the same group, group 2A. This means that the two elements have two valence electrons in their outer shell.

The difference is, however, since barium is lower in group than magnesium, it has more electron shells than magnesium and, therefore, its radius is greater. The attraction force between the nucleus and the valence electrons in barium is lower as a result, as force is inversely proportional to distance. Hence, a lower amount of energy is required to remove the valence electrons from barium.

_Cuo +H, → _Cu + _H,0
Elena-2011 [213]

Answer:

CuO(s) + H₂(g) → Cu(s) + H₂O(l)

Explanation:

 • Assuming the reaction is the reduction of CuO by H₂
 • Then the balanced equation for the reaction is;

CuO(s) + H₂(g) → Cu(s) + H₂O(l)

 • The equation shows the reducing property of hydrogen gas, such that hydrogen reduces metal oxides such as copper(ii)oxide to the respective metals.
 • The law of conservation requires chemical equations to be balanced so as the mass of reactants will be equal to that of products.
 • In this case; there is 1 copper atom, 1 oxygen atom and 2 hydrogen atoms on both side of the equation and thus the equation is balanced.

Explain how mass out 10 mL of milk
kirill [66]
Hi,

mL are smaller than liters. So milk should be liters, right? Yeah it should. If yiu put milk on a scale, it would go down bc it is so heavy. If it was not as heavy, it would be a different story here. Think of it that way.

Enthalpy of atomisation
Softa [21]

Answer:

The enthalpy of atomization is the enthalpy change that accompanies the total separation of all atoms in a chemical substance. This is often represented by the symbol ΔₐₜH or ΔHₐₜ. All bonds in the compound are broken in atomization and none are formed, so enthalpies of atomization are always positive.
