Why does chromium have a 3 charge? why is chromium (vi) oxide [cro3} not chromium 3 oxide?

Chromium (VI) has a 6+ charge (we can tell that from the number 6 after it) and you should know that Oxygen has a 2- charge (because it needs 2 more electrons to get a full outer shell).

To work out the formula we need to balance the positive and negative charges.

So we have 6+ and 2-...
We need to make 6- so therefore we times the amount of Oxygen by 3.

This makes the formula CrO3.

Hope this is helpful, message me if you have any questions :)

A mineral consisted of 29.4% calcium, 23.5% sulfur and 47.1% oxygen. What is the empirical formula?
inessss [21]
Step  one  calculate  the  moles  of  each  element
that  is  moles= %  composition/molar  mass
molar  mass  of    Ca  =  40g/mol,     S=  32  g/mol ,   O=  16 g/mol

moles  of      Ca = 29.4 /40g/mol=0.735 moles,      S= 23.5/32  =0.734 moles,  O= 47.1/16= 2.94   moles

calculate  the mole  ratio  by  dividing   each  mole with  smallest  mole   that   is  0.734
Ca=  0.735/0.734= 1,      S=  0.734/0.734 =1,   O  = 2.94/  0.734= 4
therefore  the  emipical  formula  =  CaSO4

They are substances that produce ions when they dissolve in water.
stira [4]

Electrolytes are substances that produce ions when they dissolve in water.

What are electrolytes?

When some substances are dissolved in water, they undergo physical or chemical changes, creating ions in solution. These substances form an important class of compounds called electrolytes. Substances that do not release ions when dissolved are called non-electrolytes. A substance is said to be a strong electrolyte if the physical or chemical process that produces ions is inherently 100% efficient (all dissolved compounds produce ions). A solute is said to be a weak electrolyte if only a relatively small portion of the solute undergoes ion production processes.

By measuring the electrical conductivity of aqueous solutions containing substances, substances can be identified as strong, weak, or non-electrolyte. To conduct electricity, a substance must contain free-moving charged species. The best known is the conduction of electricity through metal wires. In this case, the mobile charged unit is the electron.

Therefore, Electrolytes are substances that produce ions when they dissolve in water.

Select the correct use of the compound tms in nmr spectroscopy.a. it is a signal-to-noise enhancerb. it is an internal standard
SpyIntel [72]

TMS stands for Tetramethylsilane

Formula : Si(CH₃)₄

It is used as internal standard for chemical shift

In TMS all the four methyl groups are similar thus all the 12 hydrogen are chemically equivalent. They will show proton NMR at same level and which will appear as a singlet.

We have defined this singlet to be as reference set as zero.

Generally the other organic compounds show chemical shift downfield. So have positive chemical shift with respect to TMS shift.
