1. An experiment in your science class lists the materials needed for the lab. It is your job, as a lab partner, to measure out

25 mL of distilled water and 2.5 grams of magnesium. What lab measuring tools would you choose to measure each substance and how would you use each tool to get the correct amounts? Be sure to describe the process you would follow step-by-step. (5 points)

Graduated cylinder

Pan balance

Tape Measure

Thermometer

1. For 25 ml of distilled water we would use a graduated cylinder carefully reading the value at the bottom of the meniscus formed by the water.

For the 2.5 grams of magnesium we use a balance and watch glass. We tare the watch glass mass and after that we weight the amount of needed magnesium.

2. Which of the following is an SI base unit for measuring mass?

Gram

Ampere  - it measure the electric current

Meter  - it measure the distance

Pound - it measure the distance but is not an SI unit

3. Which of the following is an SI base unit for time?

Seconds

4. Which of the following tools should a scientist use to measure an object in milligrams?

Pan balance

Graduated cylinder  - it measures volume

Tape Measure  - it measures volume distances

Thermometer - it measures changes in temperature

5. A pencil beside a metric ruler. The ruler is scaled from 1 centimeter to 10 centimeters, with markings for millimeters between each number. One end of the pencil is beside the 0 on the ruler, and the pencil point is beside the 5.

Which of the following measurements is accurate but not precise?

5 cm - it is not precise because the ruler is able to measure at the level of milimeters

6. Which of the following prefixes represents the largest value?

Giga 10⁹

Hector  10²

Kilo  10³

Milli 10⁻³

7. Which of the following types of graphs is best for plotting the percentages of a whole value in a data set?

Circle graph - because the hole circle is representing 100 % and you have a the representation of the whole value.

DIA [1.3K]
  • V_1=49.8mL
  • T_1=18°C=291K
  • T_2=83°C=356K

Using Charles law

\\ \sf\longmapsto V_1T_2=V_2T_1

\\ \sf\longmapsto V_2=V_1T_2\div T_1

\\ \sf\longmapsto V_2=\dfrac{49.8(356)}{291}

\\ \sf\longmapsto V_2=\dfrac{17728.8}{291}

\\ \sf\longmapsto V_2=60.9mL

If something is made of atoms it must be what?
Aneli [31]
It must be made of matter because anything and everything is made up of atoms. The other three options are made of atoms but they are also matter.

If a runner maintains a constant speed of 12 miles an hour how long will it take to complete a half marathon race of 13.1 miles?
Nutka1998 [239]
At 12 mph, how long does it take to go 13.1 miles?

We know that distance = rate * time
So we know that 13.1 = 12 * time
We can now see that time = 13.1/12 = 1.092 (hours)
That's approximately 1 hour and .092*60=5.52 minutes.
