Explanation:

Fission refers to splitting into parts.

When there is splitting of a heavy nucleus that leads to formation of two or more small nucleus along with release of energy is known as a nuclear fission reaction.

For example, ^{235}_{92}U + ^{1}_{0}n \rightarrow ^{89}_{36}Kr + ^{144}_{56}Ba + 3^{1}_{0}n + 210 MeV

State the type of acid secreted by the stomach.
Ahat [919]
The gastric chief cells of the stomach secrete enzymes for protein breakdown (inactive pepsinogen, and in infancy rennin). Hydrochloric acid activates pepsinogen into the enzyme pepsin, which then helps digestion by breaking the bonds linking amino acids, a process known as proteolysis.

Why are atomic masses on the Periodic Table written in decimals when they are based on mass numbers that can be whole numbers?
Dmitry_Shevchenko [17]
To allow for equations and problems in chemistry to be as precise as possible. When experiments are conducted, and even if the number is the slightest bit off, the problem or experiment could be impacted very negatively. It allows for complete accuracy to ensure nothing goes wrong, since chemistry is very touchy and risky when dealing with extremely unsafe elements.

Answer these questions based on 234. 04360 as the atomic mass of thorium-234. The masses for the subatomic particles are given.
nikdorinn [45]

The mass defect for the isotope thorium-234 if given mass is 234.04360 amu is 1.85864 amu.

How do we calculate atomic mass?

Atomic mass (A) of any atom will be calculated as:

A = mass of protons + mass of neutrons

In the Thorium-234:

Number of protons = 90

Number of neutrons = 144

Mass of one proton = 1.00728 amu

Mass of one neutron = 1.00866 amu

Mass of thorium-234 = 90(1.00728) + 144(1.00866)

Mass of thorium-234 = 90.6552 + 145.24704 = 235.90224 amu

Given mass of thorium-234 = 234.04360 amu

Mass defect = 235.90224 - 234.04360 = 1.85864 amu

Hence required value is 1.85864 amu.

Explain why BH3 is trigonal planar and NH3 is trigonal pyramidal.
Troyanec [42]

Answer:o It is important to realise that mixing will be small unless there are electrons in the 4a1 LUMO, this is why NH3 is pyramidal while BH3 is planar! ... This mixing is very strong and stabilises the 3a1 MO substantially and hence NH3 is trigonal pyramidal and not planar.

Iron reacts with cl2 according to the equation 2 fe(s) + 3 cl2(g) ? 2 fecl3(s). how many moles of cl2 is needed to react with 4.
IceJOKER [234]
2Fe + 3Cl₂ ---> 2FeCl₃

4.4mol of Fe, you have a 2:3 ratio of Fe to Cl₂ so divide 4.4/2 = 2.2 and multiply by three 2.2 x 3 = 6.6mol of Cl₂

hope that helps :)
