Energy states of atoms containing more than one electron are influenced by nucleus-electron and electron-electron interactions.

Which of the following statements correctly describes these effects?
A. Larger nuclear charge lowers energy, more electrons in an orbital lowers energy.
B. Larger nuclear charge lowers energy, more electrons in an orbital increases energy.
C. Smaller nuclear charge lowers energy, more electrons in an orbital lowers energy.
D. Smaller nuclear charge lowers energy, more electrons in an orbital increases energy.
E. None of these statements is generally correct.

Answer:

Atoms consist of three basic entity which can't be broken further into others namely neutron, proton, and electrons. Proton ad neutrons are kept in nucleus while electrons are in  orbital, free to move in an orbital. The larger nuclear charge will make atom more stable and therefore lowers the energy. On the other hand, more electron will make atom unstable, because the energy will increase.

Thereby, option B is right choice.

You are given a bottle of NaOH of an unknown concentration. You are tasked with determining the concentration of this solution.
Salsk061 [2.6K]

Answer:

0.07975 M NaOH

Explanation:

First determine the molarity of your acid, KHP. Convert grams to moles using the MW given and then divide by the volume of water.

0.3175 g KHP • (1 mol KHP / 204.2 g KHP) = 0.001555 mol KHP

0.001555 mol KHP / 0.040 L = 0.03888 M KHP

The reaction between KHP and NaOH is one-to-one, so you can just use M1V1 = M2V2 to solve for M2 (the molarity of NaOH).

M1 = 0.03888 M KHP

V1 = 40 mL

M2 = ? M NaOH

V2 = 19.45 mL NaOH

(0.03888 M KHP)(40 mL) = M2(19.5 mL NaOH)

M2 = 0.07975 M NaOH

How are matter and substances related?
Nitella [24]
Matter and substance are definitely related. All substances are matter but all matters are not substance. A matter can consist of numerous substances. Matter is generally a loose term used in respect to a substance. Any physical object can be casually called a matter. Matter and substance are sometimes used for the same context, but it is completely wrong. Numerous examples have already proved that a matter may or may not be a substance depending on its physical nature, but a substance is always a matter.

) In order to plate a steel part having a surface area of 200 in.2 with a 0.002 in.-thick layer of nickel: (a) how many atoms of
Fiesta28 [93]

Answer:

(a). 5.4 × 10^23 atoms.

(b). 0.8928 moles Ni.

Explanation:

The first thing to do is to convert surface area from the in^2 to cm^2 and also the thickness unit to cm.

Therefore, 200 in^2 = 1290.3 cm^2 and 0.002 in = 0.00508 cm.

The next thing to do is to calculate the volume by using the formula below;

Volume= A × d. Where A = area and d = thickness.

Then, volume = 1290.3 × 0.00508= 6.55 cm^3.

Although not given but the Density if Nickel = 8 g/cm^3.

We know that the formula for Calculating density = mass / volume. So, we have ; mass = density × volume.

Mass= 8 × 6.55 = 52.4 g.

(a). The number of atoms of Nickel= moles × Avogrado's number.

Numbers of moles= mass / molar mass.

==> 52.4 / 58.6934 = 0.8928 moles.

Then, the number of atoms of Nickel = 0.8928 × 6.02 × 10^23.

= 5.4 × 10^23 atoms.

(b). The number of moles of Nickel has been Calculated in (a) above to be = 0.8928 moles Ni.
