A certain reaction X + Y → Z is described as being first order in [X] and third order overall. Which of the following statements

is or are true?: The rate law for the reaction is: Rate = k[X][Y]2. If the concentration of X is increased by a factor of 1.5, the rate will increase by a factor of 2.25. If the concentration of Y is increased by a factor of 1.5, the rate will increase by a factor of 2.25.

Answer:

The second statement is true: If the concentration of Y is increased by a factor of 1.5, the rate will increase by a factor of 2.25.

Explanation:

Hi there!

Let´s write the rate law for the original reaction and the reaction with X increased by 1.5:

rate 1 =k [X][Y]²

rate 2 = k[1.5 X][Y]²

Now we have to demonstrate if rate 2 = 2.25 rate 1

Let´s do the cocient between the two rates:

rate 2/ rate 1

if rate 2 = 2.25 rate 1

Then,

rate 2 / rate 1 = 2.25 rate 1 / rate 1 = 2.25

Let´s see if this is true using the expressions for the rate law:

rate 2 / rate 1

k[1.5 X][Y]² / k [X][Y]² = 1.5 k [X][Y]² / k[X][Y]² = 1.5

2.25 ≠ 1.5

Then the first statement is false.

Now let´s write the two expressions of the rate law, but this time Y will be increased by 1.5:

rate 1 = k[X][Y]²

rate 2 = k[X][1.5Y]²

Again let´s divide both expressions to see if the result is 2.25

rate 2 / rate 1

k[X][1.5Y]²/ k [X][Y]²

(distributing the exponent)

(1.5)²k [X][Y]² / k [X][Y]² = (1.5)² = 2.25

Then the second statement is true!

Answer:

a) True

b)False

c) True

Explanation:

The order of reactants decides the exponents of respective reactant concentrations.

Since X is first order, exponent is = 1

Overall third order, Exponent X + Exponent Y = 3

Hence, exponent Y = 2.

Hence,

Rate = k[X][Y]^2

b)

If X conc is increased by 1.5 Rate should increase by 1.5 because k proportional to [X]. Hence, statement is False

c)

If Y conc is increased by 1.5 Rate should increase by 2.25 because k proportional to [Y]^2 = (1.5)^2 = 2.25. Hence, statement is True

How Does Earth's gravitational force field act on objects that aren't touching Earth's surface?
natali 33 [55]

Answer:

Explanation:

Gravity is a field force since the earth does not have to actually “touch” an object to pull it toward the earth. A magnetic force is a field force that attracts or repels another magnet. Likewise, electric charges cause attracting or repelling forces without actual contact between the charges

V=xf-xi/t solve for t
irina [24]

Answer:

t=\frac{x_f-x_i}{v}

Explanation:

Starting from the equation:

v=\frac{x_f-x_i}{t}

First of all, let's multiply by t on both sides:

v\cdot t = \frac{x_f-x_i}{t}\cdot t \\vt = x_f - x_i

And then, let's divide by v on both sides:

\frac{vt}{v}=\frac{x_f-x_i}{v}\\t=\frac{x_f-x_i}{v}

So, finally

t=\frac{x_f-x_i}{v}

If the person drops box from 3.8 m how much energy is transferred from potential energy to kinetic energy
kotykmax [81]

Answer:

Kinetic energy

When work is done the energy is transferred from one type to another. This transferred energy may appear as kinetic energy.

For example, when you pedal your bicycle so that its speed increases, you are doing work to transfer chemical energy from your muscles to the kinetic energy of the bicycle.

Kinetic energy is the energy an object possesses by virtue of its movement. The amount of kinetic energy possessed by a moving object depends on the mass of the object and its speed. The greater the mass and the speed of the object the greater its kinetic energy.

The kinetic energy Ek of an object of mass m at a speed v is given by the relationship

{E_k} = \frac{1}{2}m{v^2}

m is the mass of the object in kilograms ( kg) and v is the speed of the object in metres per second ( m\,s^{-1}).

Explanation:

When work is done on an object it may also lead to energy being transferred to the object in the form of gravitational potential energy of the object.

Gravitational potential energy is the energy an object has by virtue of its position above the surface of the Earth. When an object is lifted, work is done. When work is done in raising the height of an object, energy is transferred as a gain in the gravitational potential energy of the object.

For example, suppose you lift a suitcase of mass m through a height h. The weight W of the suit case is a downward force of size mg. In lifting the suitcase, you would have to pull upwards on it with a force equal in size to its weight, mg.

Two suitcases. One has a green force arrow pointing up labelled F and a purple force arrow pointing down labelled 'Weight = mg'. The other case is raised by a height labelled h.

Suitcases with forces and height labelled

When this force (equal to the weight mg, but upwards) is applied to the suitcase over the distance h:

Work\,done=force\,\times\,distance\,upwards=mg\,\times\,h

This energy is transferred to potential energy when raising the object through a known height.

Energy = mass \times gravitational\,field\,strength \times height

E = m \times g \times h

This is the relationship used to calculate gravitational potential energy.

{E_p} = mgh

where m is the mass of the object in kilograms (kg), g is the gravitational field strength, (for positions near the surface of the Earth g = 9∙8 newtons per kilogram ( N kg ^{-1} and h is the height above the surface of the Earth in metres ( m).

A satellite’s velocity is 30000m/s. After 60 secs, it’s velocity shows to 15000m/a. What is the satellite’s acceleration?
Orlov [11]

Answer:

Acceleration = 9 × 10^5 m/s^2 ( deceleration )

Explanation:

From the first equation of motion:

V = u + at

15000 = 30000 + 60a

a = ( 15000-30000)/60

a = 9 × 10^5 m/s^2
