Diseases that can be spread by the use of dirty needles and exchange of body fluids (HIV, AIDS, hepatitis, STDs and other viral infections) plague drug abusers at a high rate.

Explanation:

Drug abusers open themselves up to a variety of infections directly and indirectly as a result of the abuse.  As stated above, they may expose themselves to diseases through sharing used needles.  Also, they make make poor decisions regarding protection during sex, increasing the possibility of getting a STD (sexually transmitted disease).  Additionally, they may suffer from skin and gastrointestinal diseases due to the negative impact on their immune system.
