A circular curve of highway is designed for traffic moving at 60 km/h. Assume the traffic consists of cars without negative lift

. (a) If the radius of the curve is 150 m, what is the correct angle of banking of the road? (b) If the curve were not banked, what would be the minimum coefficient of friction between tires and road that would keep traffic from skidding out of the turn when traveling at 60 km/h?

Answer:

a) 10.7° ≈ 11°

b) 0.19

Explanation:

If the road is banked at an angle, without seeking the help of friction, (i.e. frictionless road), the forces acting on the car are shown in the attached free body diagram to the question

In the y - direction

mg = N cos θ (eqn 1)

mg = weight of the car.

N = normal reaction of the plane on the car

And in the direction parallel to the inclined plane,

(mv²/r) = N sin θ (eqn 2)

(mv²/r) = force keeping the car in circular motion

Divide (eqn 2) by (eqn 1)

(v²/gr) = Tan θ

v = velocity of car = 60 km/h = 16.667 m/s

g = acceleration due to gravity

r = 150 m

(16.667²/(9.8×150)) = Tan θ

θ = Tan⁻¹ (0.18896)

θ = 10.7° ≈ 11°

b) In the absence of banking, the frictional force on the road has to balance the force keeping the car in circular motion

That is,

Fr = (mv²/r)

Fr = μN = μ mg

μ mg = mv²/r

μ = (v²/gr) = (16.667²/(9.8×150)) = 0.19

Hope this Helps!!!

Calculate the equivalent resistance for both circuits.
Allisa [31]

Answer:

Series equivalent resistance: R_{eq} = 6  \Omega

Parallel equivalent resistance: R_{eq}=14\Omega

Explanation:

The equivalent resistance in series circuit is calculated as

R_{eq} = R_{1} + R_{2}

R_{eq} = 2 + 4

R_{eq} = 6  \Omega

The equivalent resistance in parallel circuit is calculated as

\frac{1}{R_{eq}} = \frac{1}{R_{1}}+\frac{1}{R_{2}}

Which can be simplified to

R_{eq}=\frac{R_{1}\times R_{2}}{R_{1}+R_{2}}

R_{eq}=\frac{21\times 42}{21+42}

R_{eq}=14\Omega

The parallel circuit has the higher equivalent resistance as compared to series circuit.

Amanda [17]

Answer:

See the explanation below.

Explanation:

Working with nuclear reactors involves the generation of electrical energy, by means of steam generation, to move a turbine. This action taken in the United States is because special safety requirements have to be met, as well as a plan for the collection and storage of nuclear waste. These nuclear waste takes thousands of years to disappear, therefore the need to control the construction of each of them, it is better opted for the construction of power plants such as hydropower and today wind and solar power plants. Special analyses and protocols are necessary in the operation of nuclear reactors, because if the temperature of a reactor is not controlled, a disaster similar to chernobyl can be generated.

A submarine dives 185.0 m at an angle of 15.0◦ below the horizontal. What is the horizontal component of the submarine’s displac
stepan [7]

Answer:

Horizontal component, d_x=178.69\ m

Explanation:

It is given that,

Displacement of the submarine, d = 185 m

It is at an angle of 15 degrees below the horizontal. We need to find the horizontal component of the submarine's displacement. It is given by :

d_x=d\ cos\theta

Substituting the values in above equation as :

d_x=185\times \ cos(15)

d_x=178.69\ m

So, the horizontal component of the submarine’s displacement is 178.69 meters. Hence, this is the required solution.
