What is the algebra phrase x time y equal

Mathematics
1 answer:
Alexxandr [17]3 years ago
4 0

Answer

x times y = xy

x + y times a + b = (x + y)(a + b)

For that you can use the FOIL method which is First, Outside, Inside, Last.

First: x times a = ax

Outside: x times b = bx

Inside: y times a = ay

Last: y times b = by

So you have ax + bx + ay +by.

If you end up using numbers, then you can simplify.

Ask your teacher or parents. It's easier to explain in person.

Assuming the amount of money college students spend on text books each semester is symmetrical with a mean of 500 and a standard
TiliK225 [7]

16% percent of the students paid MORE than Jane.

The mean(μ) of money spent on textbooks is 500

The standard deviation(σ) of money spent on textbooks is 50

Money paid by Jane for her books is $550

We will use this formula,

Ζ=x-μ/σ

To find: the percentage of students paid MORE than Jane for the textbooks

P(X > 550)=?

Solution:

P(X > 550)=1-P(X≤550)

=1-P(Ζ≤\frac{550-500}{50} )

=1-P(Ζ≤ 1)

=1-0.8413

=0.1587

≈16%

Therefore, 16% percent (approx) of the students paid MORE than Jane.

A castle is surrounded by a circular moat which is 5 m wide
Elanso [62]

Answer:

 1414 kL

Step-by-step explanation:

The volume of the donut-shaped moat is the product of its surface area and depth. The area is the product of its centerline length and its width.

Moat area

The diameter of the centerline of the moat is (50 m -5 m) = 45 m. The length of that centerline is ...

 C = πd = π(45 m) = 45π m

The area is this length times the width of the moat:

 moat area = (45π m)(5 m) = 225π m²

Moat volume

The volume is the product of the area and the depth of the moat:

 V = Ah = (225π m²)(2 m) = 450π m³ ≈ 1413.72 m³

1 cubic meter is 1000 liters, 1 kiloliter.

The volume of the moat is about 1414 kL.
