Answer:

Trigonal Pyramidal

Explanation:

In PCl₃, between P and Cl, P is the less electronegative atom and so is the central atom. A pair of electron is shared between P and Cl thus forming a P-Cl covalent bond. There are a total of three P-Cl covalent bonds in PCl₃. And since P has 5 valence electrons P has a one lone pair of electron and the three covalent bonds. Also P has three sp³ hybird orbital and one p orbital containing a lone pair of electron. thus the molecular geometry, or shape, of phosphorus trichloride PCl₃ is trigonal pyramidal.

I believe the molecular geometry of PCL3 would be trigonal planar.

What happens to the electronegativity as you go from Lithium to Francium?
Why?
Y_Kistochka [10]

Answer:

Electronegativity in group 1 decreases as we go from Lithium to Francium.

Explanation:

Electronegativity is defined as the tendency of an element to attract an electron pair towards itself.

In a group generally this tendency decreases from top to bottom as the size of the atom increases and hence the positive nucleus get far from the outer orbital.

In the same way group 1 elements i.e. from Lithium to Francium electronegativity decreases.

What material makes up ash and pumice?
slamgirl [31]

Pumice rocks are formed due to the air that is trapped in between the rocks, a body of magma spurting out with dissolved gas under pressure. As the magma cracks through the Earth’s surface, the sudden pressure drop causes the gas to come out of the solution. The flash of gas form the vent slices the magma and blows it out as a molten lather. The lather hastily solidifies as it flies into the air and falls back to Earth as pieces of pumice.

An object has a mass of 20g and occupies a volume of 40 ml. Calculate the Density of the object.
Vsevolod [243]

Answer:

The answer is 0.5 g/mL

Explanation:

The density of a substance can be found by using the formula

density = \frac{mass}{volume} \\

From the question we have

density = \frac{20}{40} \\

We have the final answer as

0.5 g/mL

Hope this helps you
