The working substance of a certain Carnot engine is 1.20 mol of an ideal monatomic gas. During the isothermal expansion portion

of this engine's cycle, the volume of the gas doubles, while during the adiabatic expansion the volume increases by a factor of 5.7. The work output of the engine is 960 J in each cycle.Compute the temperatures of the two reservoirs between which this engine operates.

Answer:

The engine operates between 86.44K and 278.84K

Explanation:

Given:

Dung the isothermal expansion portion of this engine's cycle, the volume of the gas doubles, so

V2 = 2V1 and

V3 = 2V4. (V1 to V4 represent volumes)

W,out = 960J

∆V = Increment of Volume = 5.7

n = Number of Moles of Working Substance = 1.20mol

Let Th represents hot temperature

Let Tc represents cold temperature

For a Carnot engine:

V3/V4 = V2/V1 and

Work Done in the Cycle = nR((Th)ln(V2/V1) - (Tc)ln(V3/V4)) where R = 8.31 J/mol K Gas Constant

Substitute in the values

960 = 1.2 * R [Th * ln(2V1/V1) - Tc * ln(2V4/V4)]

960 = 1.2R[Th * ln(2) - Tc * ln(2)]

960 = 1.2R ln(2) (Th - Tc) ---- Divide through by 1.2 ln(2)

960/(1.2 ln(2)) = R(Th - Tc)

1154.16 = R(Th - Tc)

Th - Tc = 1154.16/8.31

Th - Tc = 192.3593387851951

Th - Tc = 192.40K ------ (1)

For the reversible adiabatic expansion:

T2 = T1*(V1/V2)^(R/Cv).

Where V2/V1 = 5.7 ----- Given

For a monatomic ideal gas, Cv = 3/2R. Tc = T2 and Th = T1

So,

Tc = Th*(1/5.7)^(R/3/2R)

Tc = Th * (1/5.7)^⅔

Tc = Th * 0.313388769773343

Tc = Th * 0.31

Tc = 0.31Th

Substitute 0.31Th for Tc in (1)

Th - 0.31Th = 192.40

0.69Th = 192.4 ---- Divide through by 0.69

Th = 192.4/0.69

Th = 278.8405797101449

Th = 278.84K ---- Approximated

Tc = 0.31 * 278.8405797101449

Tc = 86.440579710144919

Tc = 86.44K ------ Approximated

If you are being tailgated and need to make a stop, you should
alexandr402 [8]

If you are being tailgated and need to make a stop, you should:

B. flash your brake lights ahead of time.

C. slow sooner to make a gradual stop.

What is tailgating?

Tailgating can be defined as an act which typically involves a tailgater driving dangerously close behind another vehicle that is in front.

This ultimately implies that, a tailgating vehicle is a hazard to any driver because when he or she brakes suddenly, it may result in the tailgater hitting him or her from the rear.

In this context, we can infer and logically deduce that if you are being tailgated and need to make a stop, you should flash your brake lights ahead of time and slow sooner to make a gradual stop.

True or False: Stress can effectively be relieved through physical activity, getting enough rest and sleep, and relaxation techn
Neko [114]

Answer:

True

Explanation:

Actually this are some of the nitty gritty answers and ways to control or stip stress, lemme explain them you see stress most of the time may come from deep thoughts that are and are pushing you to the wall, and you in your state you as you react to that which is so demanding as it makes you tense,so if at you will incorporate physical activities like running, jogging or push ups the psychological tension in you is broken as you focus so much on the activities rather than the tension, then getting enough rest cools the mind and all your thoughts settle as in your brain starts to adapt to chilling and relaxation and enough sleep will actually make ones head to be at peace because if you lack enough sleep you might have an excruciating migraine when you are stressed up and finally relaxation techniques makes the body accept the situation and then you manouver out of it as you grow strongly.

Hope this will help!

A power washer is being used to clean the siding of a house. Water enters at 20 C, 1 atm, with a velocity of 0.2 m/s .A jet of w
BabaBlast [244]

A power washer is being used to clean the siding of a house. Water at the rate of 0.1 kg/s enters at 20°c and 1 atm, with the velocity 0.2m/s. The jet of water exits at 23°c, 1 atm with a velocity 20m/s at an elevation of 5m. At steady state, the magnitude of the heat transfer rate from power unit to the surroundings is 10% of the power input. Determine the power input to the motor in kW.

Answer:

Net power of 1.2 KW is being extracted

Explanation:

We are given;

Mass flow rate; m' = 0.1kg/s

Inlet temperature; T1 = 20°C = 293K

Inlet pressure; P1 = 1 atm = 10^(5) pa

Inlet velocity; v1 = 0.2 m/s

Exit Pressure; P2 = 1 atm = 10^(5) pa

Exit Temperature; T2 = 1 atm = 296K

Exit velocity; V2 = 20m/s

Change in elevation; h = Z2 - Z1 = 5m

We are told that the magnitude of the heat transfer rate from the power unit to the surroundings is 10% of the power input.

Thus;

Q = -0.1W

From Bernoulli equation;

Q - W = ∆Potential energy + ∆Kinetic energy + ∆Pressure energy

Where;

∆Potential energy = mg(z2 - z1)

∆Kinetic energy = ½m(v2² - v1²)

∆Pressure energy = mc_p(T2 - T1)

Thus;

-0.1W - W = [m'g(z2 - z1)] + [½m'(v2² - v1²)] + [m'c_p(T2 - T1)]

Where C_p is specific heat capacity of water = 4200 J/Kg.k

Plugging in the relevant values, we have;

-1.1W = (0.1 × 9.81 × 5) + (½ × 0.1(20² - 0.2²)) + (0.1 × 4200 × (296 - 293))

-1.1W = 4.905 + 19.998 + 1260

-1.1W = 1284.903

W = -1284.903/1.1

W ≈ -1168 J/s ≈ -1.2 KW

The negative sign means that work is extracted from the system.

Serratia marcescens bacteria are used for the production of threonine. The maximum specific oxygen uptake rate of S. marcescens
Sati [7]

Answer:

The rate of cell metabolism is limited by mass transfer since the value of maximum cell concentration obtained (38 g/l) is lower than 50 g l-1, the value planed.

Explanation:

                                                     Data

kLa = 0.17/s

Solubility of oxygen =  8 × 10^-3 kg / m^3

The maximum specific oxygen uptake rate = 4 mmol O2 / g h.

Concentration of oxygen =  0.5 × 10^-3 kg/ m^3

**The maximum cell density = 50 g/l

___________________

The calculated maximum cell concentration:

xmax=  kLa · CAL*/ qo

CAL* is the solubility of oxygen in the broth and qo is the specific oxygen uptake rate

Replacing the data given

xmax= ( 0.17/s ) ·   (8 × 10^-3 kg / m^3)  /  4 mmol O2 / g h

4 mmol O2 / g h  to kg O2/ g s

4 \frac{mmol}{gh} \frac{1 gmol}{1000mmol}\frac{1h}{3600s}\frac{32 g}{gmol} \frac{1Kg}{1000g}

= 3.56 x 10^-3 kg O2/ g s

So then,

xmax= ( 0.17/s ) ·   (8 × 10^-3 kg / m^3)  / 3.56 x 10^-3 o kg O2/ g s

xmax= 3. 8 x 10^4 g/ m^3   = 38 g/l
