x squared plus y squared equals 80. My daughter has to work out what x and y are. I have worked it out by trial and error, but know there must be a method. Please help!

you Need to think of 2 square numbers that add up to make 80

answer:

64 + 16

this means that x  = 8 and y = 4

because of the square roots

or

y = 4

and

x = 8
