(A tablet containing calcium carbonate and fillers with a mass of 1.631 g was dissolved in HCl. After the fillers were filtered

out, the HCl was neutralized by adding sodium carbonate. The resulting precipitate was pure calcium carbnonate (with the fillers removed). The solid calcium carbonate was collected on a watch glass that had a mass of 46.719 g when empty. After teh calcium carbonate had been allowed to dry, the mass of the watch glass plus product was found to be 47.544 g.
1. What is the mass of pure calcium carbonate product collected at the end of the experiment?

2. Calculate the mass % calium carbonate in the tablet.

3. Calculate the mass percent calcium in calcium carbonate. This calculation is theoretical and is independent of the data provided.

4. Calculate the number of grams of calcium that were in the tablet.

(Hint: this can be obtained by using the answers to question 1 and 3)

Answer:

1) 0.825 grams is the mass of pure calcium carbonate product collected at the end of the experiment.

2) The mass % calcium carbonate in the tablet is 50.58%.

3) The mass % of calcium in calcium carbonate  is 40.00 %.

4) Mass of calcium in a tablet is 0.33 g.

Explanation:

Mass of tablet = 1.631 g

Mass of the watch glass = 46.719 g

Mass of the watch glass + mass of calcium carbonate = 47.544 g.

Mass of calcium carbonate = 47.544 g - 46.719 g = 0.825 g

0.825 grams is the mass of pure calcium carbonate product collected at the end of the experiment.

Mass of calcium carbonate = 0.825 g

Percentage of calcium in tablet:

\%=\frac{\text{Mass of calcium carbonate }}{\text{Mass of tablet}}\times 100

\%=\frac{0.825 g}{1.631 g}\times 100=50.58\%

The mass % calcium carbonate in the tablet is 50.58%.

Percentage of calcium in calcium carbonate :

Molar mass of calcium carbonate = 100 g/mol

Atomic mass of calcium = 40 g/mol

Percentage of calcium in calcium carbonate :

\%=\frac{\text{atomic mass of calcium}}{\text{Molar mass of}CaCO_3}\times 100

\%=\frac{40 g/mol}{100 g/mol}\times 100=40.00\%

The mass % of calcium in calcium carbonate  is 40.00 %.

Mass of calcium carbonate = 0.825 g

The mass % of calcium in calcium carbonate  is 40.00 %.

Mass of calcium in a tablet : x

40.00\%=\frac{\text{Mass of calcium in a tablet}}{0.825 g}\times 100

x=40.00\times \frac{0.825 g}{100}=0.33 g

Mass of calcium in a tablet is 0.33 g.

The burning of a sample of propane
r-ruslan [8.4K]

Answer:

70.0°C

Explanation:

We are given;

  • Amount of heat generated by propane as 104.6 kJ or 104600 Joules
  • Mass of water is 500 g
  • Initial temperature as 20.0 ° C

We are required to determine the final temperature of water;

Taking the initial temperature is x°C

We know that the specific heat of water is 4.18 J/g°C

Quantity of heat = Mass × specific heat × change in temperature

In this case;

Change in temp =(x-20)° C

Therefore;

104600 J = 500 g × 4.18 J/g°C × (x-20)

104600 J = 2090x -41800

146400 = 2090 x

  x = 70.0479

     =70.0 °C

Thus, the final temperature of water is 70.0°C

8. If I have 34 grams of FeO, how many grams of Oxygen were synthesized?<br>Fe + O2 → Feo
krek1111 [17]

Answer:

34 gram of FeO produced 8 gram of oxygen.

Explanation:

Given data:

Mass of FeO = 34 g

Mass of oxygen = ?

Solution;

Chemical equation:

2FeO → 2Fe + O₂

Number of moles of FeO:

Number of moles = mass/ molar mass

Number of moles = 34 g /71.8 g/mol

Number of moles = 0.5 mol

Now we will compare the moles of FeO with oxygen:

             FeO       :       O₂

                2         :        1

                0.5      :      1/2 × 0.5 = 0.25

Mass of oxygen:

Mass = number of moles × molar mass

Mass =  0.25 mol × 32 g/mol

Mass = 8 g

So 34 gram of FeO produced 8 gram of oxygen.

Replacing standard incandescent light bulbs with energy-efficient compact fluorescent lightbulbs can save a lot of energy. Calcu
EleoNora [17]

Answer:

a) 1512000 Joules

b) 5040 seconds = 84 minutes = 1.4 hours

Explanation:

Power saved y replacing bulbs = 60-18 = 42 W = 42 J/s

Time the bulb is used for = 10 hours

Energy saved during this time

42×10×60×60 = 1512000 Joules

Saved energy by replacing standard incandescent lightbulbs with energy-efficient compact fluorescent lightbulbs in 10 hours is 1512000 Joules

b) Power the plasma TV uses = 300 W = J/s

\frac{1512000}{300}=5040\ s3001512000=5040 s

Time a plasma TV can be used for with the saved energy is 5040 seconds = 84 minutes = 1.4 hours.

Consider the compounds Cl2, HCl, F2, NaF, and HF. Which compound has a boiling point closest to that of argon? Explain how you c
Ipatiy [6.2K]

Answer:

Cl2, Chlorine molecule has a boiling point closest to that of argon.

This is because Chlorine is made up of discrete and simple molecules making up a simple molecular structure. The molecules associate through weak van der waal's forces of attraction hence low boiling point.

HCl <em>has</em><em> </em><em>strong</em><em> </em><em>hydrogen</em><em> </em><em>bonds</em><em>.</em>

F2 <em>is</em><em> </em><em>very</em><em> </em><em>small</em><em> </em><em>hence</em><em> </em><em>strong</em><em> </em><em>forces</em><em> </em><em>of</em><em> </em><em>attraction</em><em>.</em>

HF <em>has</em><em> </em><em>strong</em><em> </em><em>hydr</em><em>ogen</em><em> bonds</em>
