A 0.600 kg block is attached to a spring with spring constant 15 N/m. While the block is sitting at rest, a student hits it with

a hammer and almost instantaneously gives it a speed of 44 cm/s.
What is the amplitude of the subsequent oscillations? Answer should be in cm.
What is the block's speed at the point where x= 0.70 A? Answer should be in cm/s.

Answer:

8.8 cm

31.422 cm/s

Explanation:

m = Mass of block = 0.6 kg

k = Spring constant = 15 N/m

x = Compression of spring

v = Velocity of block

A = Amplitude

As the energy of the system is conserved we have

\dfrac{1}{2}mv^2=\dfrac{1}{2}kA^2\\\Rightarrow A=\sqrt{\dfrac{mv^2}{k}}\\\Rightarrow A=\sqrt{\dfrac{0.6\times 0.44^2}{15}}\\\Rightarrow A=0.088\ m\\\Rightarrow A=8.8\ cm

Amplitude of the oscillations is 8.8 cm

At x = 0.7 A

Again, as the energy of the system is conserved we have

\dfrac{1}{2}kA^2=\dfrac{1}{2}mv^2+\dfrac{1}{2}kx^2\\\Rightarrow v=\sqrt{\dfrac{k(A^2-x^2)}{m}}\\\Rightarrow v=\sqrt{\dfrac{15(0.088^2-(0.7\times 0.088)^2)}{0.6}}\\\Rightarrow v=0.31422\ m/s

The block's speed is 31.422 cm/s

If the average velocity of a duck is zero in a given time interval, what can you say about the displacement of the duck for that
Gemiola [76]

Answer:

Also 0

Explanation:

Since average speed of an object is that object's displacement over a unit of time, when an average speed is 0, its displacement over a unit of time must also be 0. When an average speed is not 0, then its displacement over a unit of time is also not 0 for that interval.

With a force of 5 newtons, Amanda pushes the stack of books to the right. At the same time, Jeremy, her little brother, pushes t
Vaselesa [24]
Its letter C. 5N to the left. Since Jeremy's force in Newtons are higher than Amanda's (in newtons), and since Jeremy's force directs to the left, then the direction of the force will be to the LEFT. Then subtract the higher one to the lower one so that would be: 10N-5N=5N. So it is C. 5N to the left.
