To introduce you to the concept of escape velocity for a rocket. the escape velocity is defined to be the minimum speed with whi
Mama L [17]
A projectile fired upward from the Earth's surface will usually slow down, come momentarily to rest, and return to Earth. For a certain initial speed, however it will move upward forever, with its speed gradually decreasing to zero just as its distance from Earth approaches infinity. The initial speed for this case is called escape velocity. You can find the escape velocity v for the Earth or any other planet from which a projectile might be launched using conservation of energy. The projectile of mass m leaves the surface of the body of mass M and radius R with a kinetic energy Ki = mv²/2 and potential energy Ui = -GMm/R. When the projectile reaches infinity, it has zero potential energy and zero kinetic energy since we are seeking the minimum speed for escape. Thus Uf = 0 and Kf = 0. And from conservation of energy,
Ki + Ui = Kf + Uf
mv²/2 -GMm/R = 0
∴ v = √(2GM/R)

This is the expression for escape velocity.

If you had a known sample of a mineral whose density was 7.1 grams/ml and its volume was 15 ml. What is the mass of the mineral.
kow [346]

Answer:

The answer is 106.5 g

Explanation:

The mass of a substance when given the density and volume can be found by using the formula

mass = Density × volume

From the question

volume = 15 mL

density = 7.1 g/mL

We have

mass = 7.1 × 15

We have the final answer as

106.5 g

Hope this helps you

For the PE formula, why is the height required for calculations? Why do we need to know the height in order to determine PE? *
Fudgin [204]

Answer:

Answer in Explanation

Explanation:

Whenever we talk about the gravitational potential energy, it means the energy stored in a body due to its position in the gravitational field. Now, we know that in the gravitational field the work is only done when the body moves vertically. If the body moves horizontally on the same surface in the Earth's Gravitational Field, then the work done on the body is considered to be zero. Hence, the work done or the energy stored in the object while in the gravitational field is only possible if it moves vertically. This vertical distance is referred to as height. This is the main reason why we require height in the P.E formula and calculations.

The derivation of this formula is as follows:

Work = Force * Displacement

For gravitational potential energy:

Work = P.E

Force = Weight = mg

Displacement = Vertical Displacement = Height = h

Therefore,

P.E = mgh

Plus and minus signs are used in one-dimensional motion to indicate direction. What is the sign of an acceleration that reduces
ladessa [460]

Answer:

Positive sign for negative velocity and minus sing for positive velocity

Explanation:

In the case of the negative velocity, the sign of the acceleration that reduces its magnitude is the positive sign, since being in the opposite direction to the movement indicates a deceleration or braking. In the case of the positive velocity, the sign of the acceleration that reduces its magnitude is the negative sign, since being in the opposite direction to the movement indicates a deceleration or braking. We observe that there will always be a reduction in the magnitude of the velocity if the acceleration goes in the opposite direction.
