What pattern do you observe in the coefficients of the hydrocarbon (CxHy) and water (H2O)? How do you explain this pattern?
balu736 [363]

The coefficients of the hydrocarbon and water is 61 and it is explained below.

Explanation:

We have to balance the chemical equation that describes the combustion of octane C₈H₁₈. The combustion of octane involves burning this hydrocarbon in the presence of excess oxygen,O 2. Because octane is a hydrocarbon, that is the compound that contains only carbon and hydrogen, the reaction will produce two products carbon dioxide CO 2 and water H 2 O.

The unbalanced chemical equation is

C₈H₁₈ + O₂ → CO₂ + H₂O

To balance this equation, we have 8 present on the reactant side, so multiply the carbon dioxide by 8 to get 8 atoms of carbon on the products side.

C₈H₁₈ + O₂ → 8 CO₂ + H₂O

Now, we have 18 on the reactant side and 2 on the products side, so multiply the water molecule by 9 to get

C₈H₁₈ + O₂ → 8 CO₂ + 9 H₂O

8 * 2 atoms O + 9 *1 atoms O = 25 atoms O

By adding fractional coefficient to O₂ we get

C₈H₁₈ + \frac{25}{2}O₂ → 8 CO₂ + 9 H₂O

Multiply all the coefficients by 2 we get,

2C₈H₁₈ + (\frac{25}{2} * 2) O₂ → 8 * 2 CO₂ + 9* 2 H₂O

The balance equation is

2C₈H₁₈ + 25 O₂ → 16 CO₂ + 18 H₂O

Add the coefficients to get their sum

= 2 +25 + 16 +18 = 61

Thus, The coefficients of the hydrocarbon and water is 61

The center on your school’s basketball team is 6 ft 10 in tall. How tall is the player in millimeters (mm)?
svp [43]

The answer is 6 ft 10 inches in millimeters (mm) is 0.833 ft.

Given,

The center of the school's basketball team is 6 ft 10 inches tall.

We have to convert the height of the player from feet and inches to feet.

Using the conversion factor,

1 ft = 12 inches

or, 12inches/ 1 ft

Converting 6ft 10 inches to ft, we get;

10 inches × 1 ft/ 12inches

= 0.833 ft

Therefore 6 ft 10 inches in millimeters (mm) is 0.833 ft.

Unit conversion is a method in which we multiply or divide with a particular numerical factor and then finally round off to the nearest significant digits.

A metal ion (X) with a charge of 2+ is attracted to a nonmetal ion (Z) with a charge of 3-.Which formula represents the resultin
Viefleur [7K]

Answer:

X₃Z₂

Explanation:

A metal ion (X) with a charge of 2+ = X²⁺

nonmetal ion (Z) with a charge of 3- = Z³⁻

In a neutral compound, the charges but balance each other to remain neutral. However in this case, the charges are not balanced.

A simple way to make the charges balance is by tweaking the number of the ions present in the compound.

We do this by multiplying the metal ion with 3 and the non metal ion by 2.

That way we have;

Metal ion = 3X2⁺ (Total charge - 6⁺)

Non metal ion = 2Z3⁻ (Total charge - 6⁻)

The charges are now balanced. The formular of the compound is;

X₃Z₂

Steps:

 • Remember that Density = mass/volume, or D = m/v

So firstly, we have to find the volume of the rock. To do this, we need to subtract the volume of water A from the volume of the water B. In this case:

 • Water A = 30 mL
 • Water B = 40 mL
 • 40 mL - 30 mL = 10 mL

The volume of the rock is 10 mL.

Now that we have the volume, we can plug that and the density of the rock into the density equation to solve for the mass.

3.678=\frac{m}{10}

For this, multiply both sides by 10:

36.78=m

Answer:

Rounding to the tenths place, the mass of the rock is 36.8 g, or C.

The volume of a gas at 17.5 psi decreases from 1.8L to 750mL. What is the new pressure of the gas in arm?
Maurinko [17]

Answer:

P₂ = 2.88 atm

Explanation:

Given data:

Initial volume of gas = 1.8 L

Final volume = 750 mL

Initial pressure = 17.5 Psi

Final pressure = ?

Solution:

We will convert the units first:

Initial pressure = 17.5 /14.696 = 1.2 atm

Final volume = 750 mL ×1L/1000L = 0.75 L

The given problem will be solved through the Boly's law,

"The volume of given amount of gas is inversely proportional to its pressure by keeping the temperature and number of moles constant"

Mathematical expression:

P₁V₁ = P₂V₂

P₁ = Initial pressure

V₁ = initial volume

P₂ = final pressure

V₂ = final volume

Now we will put the values in formula,

P₁V₁ = P₂V₂

1.2 atm × 1.8 L = P₂ ×0.75 L

P₂ = 2.16 atm. L/ 0.75 L

P₂ = 2.88 atm
