Hello,
Let x represent the total of jumps
y represent the total “ raised the roof "

Here are two equation:
3x+2y=50
x+y=19
To solve this, I would prefer to use substitution because it is the easiest way to do:
x+y=19
Times 3 from both side
3x+3y=57
-
3x+2y=50
=
y=7
x=19-7=12. As a result, Roxanne jumps 12 , and “ raised the roof ” 7 times. Hope it help!

alina1380 [7]

Answer:

She needs 153

Step-by-step explanation:

Let x be the score in the 4th game

To find the average add up the scores and divide by the number of scores added

(149+162+152+x) /4 = 154

Multiply each side by 4

(149+162+152+x) /4  *4= 154*4

(149+162+152+x)  = 616

Combine like terms

x+463=616

Subtract 463 from each side

x+463-463 = 616-465

x = 153

Where did the 9/4 come from?
motikmotik

Answer:

Ok so this concept is kind of hard to explain, but basically the two equations are equal because you are adding 9/4 and then subtracting 9/4, so you just end up with 0. The reason you do that is so you can make the (x + 3/2)^2 part, which you wouldn't be able to do without the 9/4/
